Convicts, Jewels. I think Jewels might be african Cichlids tho

Yep jewels are african but they like neutral pH, unlike african lake cichlids which like a harder pH

there are pretty cool fish i ahve 2 myself. there is the german blue ram gold ram and bolivan ram. all but the gold ram are on this forums fish index. they dont get very big and have lots of color.

A pair of Cockatoos should be fine in a 20 gal and AFAIK they would be OK with your plec. Reasonably peaceful fish, on the smaller side, and OK in a community tank so you could add a few other fish such as some small tetras. They like a pH around neutral and prefer water that is at least moderately soft.
