left my house on friday evening come back this morning to find 1m 1f dead stuck to the filter they had been there a while
the only 2 conclusions to there deaths i can get are

bullyed to death as today one of the males seemed aggresive flaring at all the others (even the betta in the tank doesnt)

i had a 4 hour power cut during friday (temp only droped 0.5degrees)

these little rainbows are very sensitive in my experience, i had 9 that soon turned into 4 without warning and the water was fine... mine flared and chased each other quite a bit but nothing ever came of it so i wouldnt have thought it would be that. they do prefer acidic water and alot of the other rainbows like alkaline water, i think....
what are the water parameters?

I love Dwarf Neon Rainbows, Gotta be my favorite fish!

I also had lots of teething problems building my shoal, i put it down to stress 99% of the time. I had only Neon Tetras as tank mates. My tank was mature with good stats also.

They seem to get stressed really quickly compared to other Tropical fish ive owned. Particularly with respect to the cleaning routine and ambient lighting changes.

I currently have a shoal of 8 all of which have made it through the first 3 months. Usually within this time i find one or two that are just not as hardy as the rest and are prone to illnesses. Having done some research online i read that 1 Female to 4 males is preferred to limit 'fighting' although flaring is a display rather than physical. This can also cause stress to weaker fish.

Rainbows are great! :good:

i had 3m 3f
and the weakest/smallest female still here but the male that died was the smaller one that never got involved with chasing and flaring at the other males

think ill just leave the four in see how things go if i loose any more ill get something else in the tank

as for tank mates they are in my sig

Ive also found praecox to be sensitive compared to other rainbow species. For some reason mine rarely live past 6 months, then they seem to drop like flies within a few weeks of each other, where my other rainbows thrive.
