2,000 Liter Discus Tank

That looks bloody superb! What plants have you gone with on both sides?
On the right I have planted Cryptocoryne Balansae, and the left is Rotala Wallichii and "I think" Pogostemon. They will take a few months to fill out and get some height, but I hope they will look good.

You can probably see the rocks and wood is planted with Anubias Nana, Java Ferns and Moss.

Cheers :D

Visually stunning!!

A extremely beautiful tank and discus, love the variety in a single tank of your size.

Congratulations on a job well done!

This is amazing!!  All your preparation has really paid off, it will be great to see it develop as the plants grow in.

Tank looks an incredible acheivement, I hope you're pleased? I know we are all never 100% happy as we all like a change about now and again but wow! My phone isn't letting me watch your video but I will log in tomorrow for a peak at that :D

Thank you. I will update it as the plants fill out, and if I make any additions

, and the fish are all showing mating behavior(inc. 3 new pairs that paired up soon after going in), so they obviously feel content in their new environment. Has caused a bit of chasing and squabbling though, as they all want to be boss of their new home

Thought I would share how I have my filtration running, for interests sake.

So I am running a sump refugium setup. The following sequence of pictures go through each stage.......

1. The water flows from the tank into the overflow box in the corner, and cascades down to the bulkhead fitting, then down the pipe to the start of the sump:

2. Below the outlet of the pipe is a drilled tray. This tray spreads the water across the top of the first compartment. On top of the compartment is a large, fine filter pad. This catches all of the suspended matter. The water then flows down through approx 50 litres of Bio-Balls. At the the bottom of this compartment is a grill, and the water then flows through the grill and upwards over the baffle and then down through Ceramic Tubes, Eheim Substratpro, and finally Peat Torf.

3. The water enters the planted section through a grill below the substrate. Here the plants absorb the Nitrates. I am currently running the refugium light 24/7. I am doing this to try to speed up the plant growth, as ideally I want the planted section stuffed full. Once I have these plants grown out I will alternate the refugium lights and tank lights. This way the plants in the refugium will be producing CO2 during the day and adding to help the photosynthesis of the tank plants, and then vice verse at night...........At least that's the theory

4. The end section houses the return pump, pH controller sensor and heater. Fitted to the return pipe, just above the pump, is my home made reactor, where the CO2 is injected.

5. Finally the water returns to the tank. There are 2 pipe outlets below the waterline, which I have set at slightly different angles to try to get the best water distribution through the tank. You can just see the fine mist of CO2 bubbles exiting the outlets.

Looks good, you certainly have planned everything and set everything for easy access.

Nice job!

Dear Santa...

No in all seriousness it's an absolutely great tank.. you've given me something to aim for and admire. Although I'm relatively new to fish keeping I can appreciate how much effort and experience it would take to make a setup like this. I've heard of the refugium thing as I imagine w/c a 2000 litre tank would take a LONG time, it's great to see how it all works. Next step for my fish keeping is CO2 which I may need to ask advice on

I'm sure you're really happy, but more importantly, the fish will be

Well done

PS.. Enter TOTM so more people can see this tank!

Thanks man. I had a plan, and it festered in my mind for quite a while. So when I finally got round to it I had already done it a thousand times in my mind. The one thing I have learnt over the years is to try and get it right first time, no matter how much effort it takes. If I didn't do that I would have had to strip it down and do it again, which is more than double the effort! Tying all those plants to the wood was a horrible job, but it paid off.

Previously I on my smaller tank I would do 50% water changes 3 times a week, on this one I am only planning t top up and maybe change 30% once a month. I will keep a close eye on the water quality and adjust that plan as needed. The fish must be really content as there is courtship behavior going on all around the tank! Looks like a school disco!!! They obviously didn't read the pool sign:

-No Running
-No Bombing
-And NO Heavy Petting!!!!!!!!!

As for TOTM I will wait until the plants have filled out, and I also have a great friend coming to stay in a couple of months, and he is a professional photographer, so has a better camera than my iPhone
