190 L. Corner Tank

Nice George, you'll be giving Tom a run for his money soon :) would you ever do this full time? BTW what do you think of the Hagen T5, noticed them in my local MA, not seen them before, but the 6700k looks ok?

I'll be following this thread closely, I'm currently setting up Juwel Trigon 190 which is basically the same things with none of the fancy stuff, though I have a fluval 305 on it, and I'm planning on slightly higher light.

Cant wait to see how it turns out!

I doubt I'd do it full-time in the near future. Doesn't pay well enough and there isn't the market yet. Funnily enough I have been approached about working for someone already. It's a nice thought, a proper labour of love. Something for the longer-term perhaps.

Re. lighting. The supplied Power Glo T5 is very purple, not to my taste at all. Now there's water and hardscape in there the client thinks the same, so I think I'll replace at least one tube with the Life Glo (6700K). I don't rate the built-in reflectors, there's loads of waste so fitting some Arcadia T5 reflectors is in order. I just need to convince the client.

Here's a photo just after filling with water. Apparently it's cleared up already.

I bought the plants today. Thanks to Tim from Maidenhead Aquatics, Crowland for his assistance and excellent service.

Various Amazon swords, crypts, Java ferns, anubias and Egeria densa for algae-busting. Enough planting for the substrate should be well-covered.

The swords will be background cover, crypts mid-foreground and ferns/anubias attached to wood. Quite a simple/low-maintenance 'scape.

Will plant tomorrow. :)

I only just realised there was now a journal bit in the planted forum lol wondered where all the journals had gone! Glad i realised in time for this one, i shall be watching this with much interest from now on.

Looks great :) I like the hard scape.

Exscuse the silly question, but is Egeria densa the same as Elodea densa? Tah muchly :)

I like the hardscape too and yes Egeria densa is the correct scientific name for Elodea densa, which is also sometimes referred to as anacharis, though that term is not in as much use.

Looking forward to the pics, George.

as to be expected from a master.... it's looking really good so far....

george... how do you rate the fluval tank overall?

The whole tank pressure resting on a couple of jubilee clips and the gasket of a fluval 205?? that would make me nervous.

Thanks.

The tank is fully planted now and has been establishing for around 6 weeks. We have some minor thread algae issues on Java fern leaves and the client bought a dodgy batch of zebra danios from the local "chain pet store". Apart from that it's looking great and they are very happy with it so far.

I hope to get some photos soon.

JamieH- The tank is excellent, except for the supplied lighting. If they supplied better reflectors and swapped one Power Glo for a Life Glo then it would be 100% better. The filter system is very good, no complaints there at all. If there was to be a big fish load then swapping for a bigger fliter would be easy too. I have confidence in the seals....
