150L Cycle Log

thats not algae, its just some gunk that forms on all new tank suckers for some odd reason. can be scooped up with a net and binned. will stop forming when the tank is mature.

Ammonia still the same last night, Nitrites up to between 0.5 and 1ppm :)

Slowly getting there.

Hmm, seems to have stalled for a few days now, still at 4.0ppm Amm and 1ppm Nitrite...

OK, fourth day in a row the Ammonia is at 4.0ppm and the Nitrites at 1.0ppm

Is this normal?

Good news last night, Ammonioa dropped to 2ppm, Nitrites were up to 5ppm, :)

Progress is being made

idon't know where you are..but my high Nitrite and Nitrate levels keep plummeting my PH...you could try testing yours and see if its up around 8.0...this is what my tanks do best in.

Nitrites over 5ppm tonight, Ammonia the same, Nitrates slowly incerasing, now somewhere between 5-10ppm

PH is 7.6...

Ammonia to 1ppm tonight, so re added back up to 4ppm.

Nitrites were through the roof, a nice deep shade of purple

Nitrates rising nicely, now 20ppm....

Quick Q..

I haven't done any water changes yet, is it advisable to do water changes whilst fishless cycling? if so, how much.

its not essential...and you dont want to starve that bacteria. Unless things go a bit haywire or PH plummets i wouldnt bother. TBH the ones i have done (due to HIGH nitrite and Nitrate plummeting the PH)havent made a difference in the readings at all!

Boogybaz, sometimes a water change of almost all water seems to help when your nitrites are sky high. I can give no good explanation of it, but it seems to help sometimes. Don't forget to re-dose the ammonia levels after such a water change.

Thanks :)

Ammonia at 2ppm last night after dosing, so it seems to be dropping quicker now, Nitrites were off the charts again and Nitrates at 20ppm..

Wierd results last night,

Ammonia is going great, cleared in 24 hours, so redosed.

Nitrites still off the scale

Nitrates dropped to 10ppm...

What would cause this, not changed water..

This happened to me too. It's not a drop in the nitrate, but more than likely an error in the test. If you're using the api test kit, bash the hell out of bottle 2 against the desk then give it a really good shake. It tends to solidify after not too long.
