I did a water change today. One of the fry escaped after the water change, but I was able to net it back into the fry saver. I tided the tank up a bit so the milfoil will grow like the ambulia has been.

The bigger fry that escaped earlier today. Should I name him(?) after Messi? :)

The second fry isn't growing much and still small. It's hiding a lot too.

The babies need lots of food and preferably frozen (but defrosted) or live food. The raw/ cooked prawn we spoke about before is a good option to help the little one grow. Use a pr of scissors and cut it up into really small pieces and feed the babies until they are fat and don't eat any more. Do that 3 or 4 times a day and they will grow.

I do feed them live microworms along with Hikari First Bites.

They need more than that. I used to feed baby fish powdered flake food first, then finely chopped marine mix (prawn, fish & squid), then finely chopped frozen bloodworms, microworms and newly hatched brineshrimp. They got this 3-5 times a day and were fed until they looked like a pregnant guppy.

Just make sure they have a fat stomach at all times to get the best growth rate :)

Oh.

Interesting that your GH is up. We should be getting desalinated (reverse osmosis) water or possibly dam water, although our dams are really low (30% full) so it's most likely r/o. Have you checked the tap water for GH and KH? The KH will be artificially raised by the Water Corporation but the GH should be lower than 120ppm.

You need to do a big water change to drop the nitrates. Check the tap water for that too.

Oh, I might need to tell my parents about the GH and KH of the water.

Just check the tap water for GH and KH first and see what it is. A GH of 120ppm is fine for the silvertip tetras but they prefer softer water (lower GH) for breeding. The Water Corp might have changed sources and that is why the GH is up but they don't normally in winter.

Update: I done a water change and fed the adult tetras and fry baby brine shrimp for the first time.

The adults are doing OK at the moment.

Here are the two fry together. One's smaller than the other.

Did you hatch brineshrimp to feed them or buy a packet of frozen baby brineshrimp? Did the fish like it?

The different sizes in the fry are just their age, the bigger one being older than the smaller one. They will eventually grow to the same size as the adults. :)

The fish liked it. I got the live baby brine shrimp at the fish store (they were on sale) and I'm planning to feeding them to the tetras for a few days. Not planning to raise live cultures yet.
