I love the idea of the buddah. Will he fit in, or will his head pop out?
I know this probably isnt what youd want, but can you imagine if a thin layer of algae like in (omg, cant remember his name, think it began with P, he stripped it down and made a cichlid tank.. but in his planted tank he had a moss/algae covering on the rocks and it looks soo cool, i'm sure you know who).

Pauliooo :D The buddha's a bit small, so it's head won't stick out of the water (I hope... ). He's gonna go on one corner on an elevated "hill". So it looks like he's looking over this japanese rock garden thing (exposed sand and some random rocks). I did "age" the buddha a bit with a non-toxic ceramic dye. He was white when I got him  And just like what you said, I'd like to encourage algae growth on him as well. Hopefully it will be the green algae that will stick to him and not the brown one

This is going to be very interesting, great ideas by the way!! :D

This nano journal would not have materialized if it not for Sam starting this whole nano mess. :p

Mwahhhhh! :ninja: Ninja sam strikes again!

Woohooo glad to see the tank 'in the flesh' looks like a right b.e.a.uty, like the lights too, much more stylish than my homemade bodge job!

The plan with the budah sounds cool B) that'll look wicked if you can get it to work, which Im sure to can ;) It'll be like walking though the valley of a lost civilisation with ancient statues poking out of the ground. Way cool my friend, way cool

I like your idea Sam. Perhaps get it to look like the 2nd picture on the page in this link http://www.sacredsites.com/asia/cambodia/angkor_wat.html. Perhaps get some Anubias and tie it to the Buddha :)

wow i like it

the buddha and lava balls are really cool 8)

i do like it when people put something other than wood, stones and plants in they're tanks! I've fancied a buddha in one of my tanks for ages.

Very cool! Now see what you've done here?! I have all of these empty tanks sitting around now and it makes me want to set one up in a total untraditional fashion. No...must resist.

Anyway -- regarding the white sand - if you haven't ordered it already, try going to a pool store. You live in the swimming pool capital of the US! This is where I got mine (pool filter sand). It's nice because it's more coarse than regular white sand. It doesn't compact like sand does either.

I can't wait to see this progress!!

Can't wait to see this tank up and running. I'm assuming you still want the laterite and light timers?

llj

His was more of a "forgotten civilization" thing (like what you suggested, Sam & Dubby), mine would be more of a well kept japanese rock garden. (Yes! I'm copying a "copy" of nature again. Can you see a trend here?) I really like this rock garden, I'm hoping I could pull off something similar but in a smaller scale. (Sam, this explains that "can you draw on sand" thread in the chitchat forum )

I think I know the kind of look you are aspiring for. You should watch the movies "Crouching tiger, hidden dragon" and "House of flying daggers" for some awesome japanese landscapes and garden ideas :)

:-( Why? Are you keeping them hostage??? :-( :-( :-(

Yes, please :D And don't worry, I still have your xmas moss. I just took them out during the 10 gallon's photo op :) I'm still waiting for my new bedside table so... no hurry :good:

Yes, I crush little piece of laterite if you do not give me moss. Mwuh ha ha ha ha.... :big_boss:

He he he. That was funny.

June cannot come quickly enough. Big sigh.

Hahaha! Still playing the Godfather :big_boss: eh? :D June cannot come quickly enough, but apparently, my desk can! It arrived today without warning. The tank fits perfectly on it :D (don't mind the disgusting carpet color )

The new heater that I am expecting also came on time. I also thought I'd start algae-fying (haha) the buddha. So I set up the tank by the window to get lotsa sunshine. Had a last minute "change of mind" yet again. I'm liking this figurine better.

Like I'd soak my precious Neo in water :p (Yes, yes, revel in my geekdom! :p) So anyway, the buddha's a-soaking and hopefully will be greenish by June :good:

Well, I am 1/4 Italian. (Cue Godfather waltz). It's in the blood. :big_boss: (End Godfather waltz)

Keanu is a nice touch. Why don't we try David Hasselhoff (sp) next time? (Cue Baywatch theme or Nightrider depending on your dominant decade of existence). I don't like him in particular, but I thought it would be a fun choice for you. A little off the beaten path. (End David Hasselhoff show themes).

He he, I'm funny.

 this forum is more for people to be silly and make daft and humurous pictures! Than to talk about fish! Haha that could well be partly my fault!

I like the buddha thingy, I bit to formal a layout for my own tanks but Im sure you'll pull something great out of the hat as normal FKNM ;) And if I might venture that writing names in the sand would be even cooler, hint hint ;)

(*cough*itsucksit's2:49amgimmeabreakhaha*cough*)

What? Think you've been at the caffeine again!

I personally like the first layout best, I think if you're going to make this layout 'formal' then the symmetry you got from those rocks works better and the 'river' of HC (or whatever you use) that flows between them works best with those rock. I would however say they I think the colour of the rocks in the second photo look better, think you're right about the orange being a bit to bright. But if you cant find any right coloured rock that can also give you the shape in the first photo then I would go with the orange ones.

I don't quite understand what you mean about the anubais and also how the lava balls come into play?

EDIT - oh and score with the sand stuff! Its great when things like that happen :D

I'm a slave to pepsi. What can I say?

Ehmm. The lava balls are 18 mm in diameter. I will be attaching the anubias nana petite on them. So it kinda looks like a topiary thing, but not quite. It's gonna look something like this:
orangestone2.jpg

Too gaudy? (Also note that the orange gets even more distracting now that I've placed the lava rock on it )

A bit too gaudy for my taste. I think it's the orange. I wonder if it's possible to find gray granite? I suspect that's what the orange/black rock is. If you could find a gray version, you might be good to go. We have a lot of time on our hands don't we? Still waiting for David Hasselhoff's picture on the Buddha.

Slave to Pepsi! You're in the minor leagues, when you're slave to Cafe Cubano, then we can talk.

Got your PM, will send the stuff on Tuesday! Priority too. :D
