Hi! I currently have a 140L tank with: A pair of apisto cacatuoides, Pair of epiplatys dageti, 1 BN pleco, 1 Stiphodon Atropurpureus.

Looking for a shoal of something quite small, I had 10 Rummy nosed tetra previously and they were nipping the fins off everything in the tank as theyre all quite small still. Would mosquito rasbora or neon green dwarf rasbora be too small? Also thinking of getting 2 pairs of lyretail killifish would they be a problem with the other killies?

Thanks!

Are you trying to breed the cacs or is it just a community tank?
Breeding would be nice, they've spawned before and the female is yellow and flicking her tail at him for a few days so hopefully more are on the way?

I see youre breeding cacs also is there anyway to help them on their way once they're showing signs of breeding?

What happened to the 1st spawn then?

I keep mine at ph 6 at 26c mine spawn every 2 weeks and give off approx 50fry per female. The male will get agggresive when he has fry so a community tank is not ideal. Your cacs sound very typical the male will flare his fins and the female goes golden yellow and dances with shaking of the tail.

Fairly sure the female ate them once they got to be wrigglers, theyre still only small though so im almost certain that was her first ever spawn.

He can be fairly aggressive sometimes when near the coconut caves but only towards the bottom of the tank, It's fairly heavily planted aswell though :)

Are fair enough, you prob wont get some decent spawns untill about 3-4 times in. Keep an eye on that male if he keeps pestering her after or while with fry its not uncommon for her to kill him. You might have to remove the male after a month anyway due to aggrestion. idealy they should be on their own tank when trying to breed good thing is it can done in like a 50-70l

Really? I've never heard of that! Theyve been together in the tank ~7 months now had them since they were only ~1-2 cm and theyre my favourite fish! Theyre never aggressive towards each other though? is this only something that occurs after theyve bred?

Also do you know if it's possible to house 2 pairs of cacs or some other apisto like agazzi?

yes it only occurs if the male is trying to get fruity after shes had enough or he starts on fry and she protecs them.

It is dobale but not advisable keeping cacs with agazzi, you would need a long tank with zomes set up for them to call their own, even then it down to the fish if they want to go for a punch up :good:

Ahh well guess I'll just stick with my pair then :), I'll keep a check on how he behaves if they ever actually breed! Does it normally take long for them to breed once theyve showed signs? She's been glowing yellow and tail flicking and hes been flaring and getting territorial for ~5 days now and still nothing!

Thanks for the great advice btw :)

Np from the time i spot both my females yellow and dancing i will see free swimming fry about two weeks later sometimes more at a guess
