Please help, i have 3 batches of guppy fry in my 50L breeder tank. They are 9 weeks, 5 weeks and 1 week old respectively. Over the past 2 days 11 guppies from all batches have died and the others arent looking good. Other tank inhabitants (3 adult guppies and 2 bn plecs) are fine.
Water stats:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 40
pH: 7.6
Temp 26

Obvious signs: Guppies tails look like they are thinning at the end (ie becoming narrower when looked on at side profile). Fry begin to lose equilbrium and are dead within a day

Please help....

i had hatches fry at one point ur ph is way to high i would have it around 6.5 . and the temp of the tnk should be about 70-75, also when you feed the fry put some fish flakes into a zipl;ck bag and crush it uip into a powder they will be able to eat the small particals rather than trying to eat a large flake. feed them at least 2 times daily. any more questions, email me.

one of the main reasons livebearers give birth to so many fry is because in the wild only 10% or less will reach adulthood
so a few of them dying isnt a biggie you may have had an amonia spike which some of them couldnt tolerate

It seems weird that they have all succumb to this in the past 2 days. I have lost 50% of my fry population - and this seems weird to me. I guess an ammonia spike could be a reason. Going to do a 20% change and see whether that helps

Think your nitrite is really high too. Is that a correct reading?

Small tail... could be under feeding or one of your fish wants to eat guppy tails for snack

After finding another guppy dead i thought i'd better recheck the ammonia reading. This has come back at 0.25 - so either my tank has gone thro a mini cycle or a dead guppy has caused the levels to spike and this has had a knock on effect to the others. Have just done a 50% water change and gravel vac, and will feed sparingly for next few days. Hopefully that will solve it
