Tropica and Aquafluer Eleocharis Acicularis is grown emersed, so trim it right back or the leaves will rot and destroy the roots.

the 'leaves' or strands will just die anyway. by cutting it back, it promotes new growth and you will see little strands appearing around the main plant. its the same with trimming the roots before you plant.....

small update

i cut the hairgrass a few days back and it is starting to grow again. also the hc is forming a bit of a carppet, it was growing up a bit so i added some more carbon which looks to have done the job, will post some more pics when the hairgrass is growing some more

another update

just replanted the whole tank, i thinned out the hc to get a better carpet effect and scrubbed off alot of the brown algae from the rocks. will get a picture tomorrow when it is cleared
