10G uncycled tank for my girls

My girls are floating in the tank right now - they're anxious to start checkin out the new place.

However..
I didn't get to the lfs before they closed so no gravel.
Can I still add that in after they go in??

You know all your other betta tanks? I'm sure they all have SOME bacteria in it. Take some from all the other tanks. And yes you can add it in after they go in...just not too long after. Good luck on the tank and tell us how it goes :)

All the girls have now been dumped in.
The current is REAAAAAALLY strong for them.
However, they have all had their little tiffs with each other and they've all made friends. It's been kinda funny watching them all flare at each other when they can't stand still cuz they keep getting blown around by the current. lol

I somehow managed to pick out the ugliest (by FAR) girl I've seen to date. At the store, she had some really nice coloration - very shiny blue. I dumped her in and she now looks like a minnow. Silver with white & black stripes. Oh well, I love her anyway :)

So, all total I have 5.
Cloey, white body w/red fins
Liza, white body w/red fins
Pearl, white body w/slightly red tail
Daisy, butter yellow
Millie, the minnow look-alike

Sorry, don't have the camera at home tonight but I'll get pics tomorrow nite, hopefully. Wish us all luck.

OH, and while I was floating them, I didn't have a cup w/a cover on it for Cloey. Well, she jumped. Thank god she landed in the tank. I suspected she might jump, so I positioned the cup she was in so that if she did she landed in the water. Good thing I did, cuz she went for it.

Yay!
Finally, pics of my gals.
Here they are:

*chants* FULL TANK SHOT! FULL TANK SHOT! FULL TANK SHOT! :p BTW- Did you get the compact flourescents?

HA!!!
No, I haven't had a chance to. I plan to go find some over lunch tomorrow. I'm already starting to notice some brown tips on some of the Mondo Grass. eek!

Today I had to go to my friend's house (Well, I'm very disappointed in her right now because of the condition I found her tank in). You remember the 10G that was offered to me for free? Well.... I got to her house and the "2 angels, 1 pleco, 2 zebra danios and 1 ADF" were in reality.....

A huge a$$ pleco (almost 6" long), 1 dead angel, 1 MIA angel, 1 frog leg and 2 supremely hyper and pissed off danios swimming around in pea soup covered in a coating of fish poo about 1/4" thick. it was DISGUSTING. Uugh. I quick grabbed an ice cream bucket and got poor Mr. Pleco out, then I fished out the poor little danios. I rushed the danios over to my friend's house (The guy who owns Blueberry the freakishly huge betta) to drop into his 10G tank while he cycles it - I figure they've got a better chance in a tank that's being cycled than where they were... and I then drove over to the lfs in town and donated mr. plec. they were super excited to get him.

Then I came home and took and posted tons of pics. Man, I wonder what I used to do with all of my time before I found this forum. LOL

Millie isn't ugly. She looks like she is a pretty steel blue color. She is my fav. Your others are pretty too. I'm just not very fond of red. The all look happy in their new home. :D

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww....

I guess I won't be seein' ya with angels next week! Yuck! Wonder what happened to the angel MIA......and the poor frog....
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhh..
I was just going off to email you about that.
Those poor fish must have died a HORIFFIC death.
I would have to guess that it had been at LEAST one year since any water had been changed or any cleaning had taken place.
When I lifted up the rock cave that the pleco was sitting on so I could get him into position to catch, there was the most horiffic smell on the PLANET - like 1000 rotten eggs that had been dumped into a sewage plant on STEROIDS (lol).

The poor things.
It was great - when we dumped the danios into the clean tank they swam around and you could see little smiles on their faces.
And i took mr. plec over to Aquatic Specialties. They were grateful for the donation. I'm sure they'll find a great home for him. I just feel really bad for the angels and mr. froggy.

Yeah, I've warmed up to Millie.
it was just that when I first dumped her into the tank, she had the horizontal stress bars non-stop. I thought I was going to have 4 dainty pretty little girlies and then one ugly minnow thing.

When I saw her with her normal zebra stripes and her little bit of blue sheen, I decided I kinda like her now, too.

I'm really getting pissed off at Cloey. I dropped some food in tonight, and she inhaled 5 PIECES OF FOOD AT ONCE! She was just running around catching them all before anyone else could get them. Then she must have hiccupped or somehing, and they all came flying out. All the other girls made a mad dash and grabbed one.

I did end up netting her for a while and feeding everyone else. That seemed to work pretty well. Everyone is eating okay, but Liza is hiding almost all the time. She's gotten better, though, since I shoved some filter sponge into the intake tube and really slowed down the current.

That's sure too bad about the fish.......I can't believe they lived at all like that...poor things. Gosh, and if I go more than two weeks without doing a water change/cleaning, I'm feeling pretty rotten about it........these poor guys. Oh, I really like millie too!

Yeah - I can't imagine....
YUCKY.
OH well, we got 3 of them out of there.
I hope Mr. Pleco finds a great home. I'm sure he will!

You know.. it was actually kinda funny - when I dropped him off, they said "Has he been eating anything"... and I said "Yeah, a big ol' angel fish".

hee hee hee

Man, I wonder what I used to do with all of my time before I found this forum.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I used to have a life apart from fish... now fish are my life. It's kinda sad... especially when you start talking to them, calling them nicknames like "Keedle-ee-deedle-ee" and "Bandy-whandy", and calling them "babies" when you are telling someone else about them. :*)

Your girls are absolutely adorable!!! They are going to have so much fun in their tank. *cough*spoiledrotten*cough*

Hey, I know you've probably had your fill of cycling talk, but if you bought the starter kit that I think you did, it comes with a filter that has a black/blue panel and a white/black panel. If you put the white/black panel in one of your tanks you've had set up for a while and and just leave it there for a couple days, that might help with bacteria growth.

BTW, all your girlies are beauty pagaent queens! I love Millie
