It's really a novel idea!! But how to oxygenate the water? Or will the water stay static inside the tubes?

If you had 2 of them you could mini jet up one side. As long as the flow isn't too fast, it will even itself out.

Thanks everybody!! :D And thanks for the idea adrinal :) I'd actually thought about that idea before, but I have a worry that I won't be able to realise that the flow is too fast until it's too late. I employ your idea currently to clean the tubes, but don't leave it like that.

The water remains oxygenated due to the fact that substances in solution tend to flow towards an equlibrium state where they are homogenous throughout. I've also got the right side tubes right next to the heater so I'm thinking there are slight convection currents in "the rainbow."

My snails have discovered that they're safe in the tubes. The puffers can't seem to figure out how to get them in there (I thought puffers were supposed to be smart??). Another pic on its way

That reminds me a little bit of a tank I saw in a book... "Aquarium Style" by Matthew Christian (interesting book for layout ideas... but very bad fish/plant information). There's this one tank that's done entirely with that brightly colored hamster tubing everywhere. Their tubes didn't leave the water though... cool idea.

I wonder if that tubing-from-tank-to-tank idea could work to 'expand' a grow-out tank. Hmm.

Hey endparenthesis. Actually, my first attempt was with hampster tubes! The problem, however, was that the tubes came split in u shaped sections so that they'd be easier to clean. I did my best to seal them with no luck. I'm hoping that the 4" clear pvc pipes I plan on getting will solve this problem for me :D

endparenthesis, you convinced me to go for it :) I added one more fake, and three clumps of real grass, moved around the rocks a bit. I think the aquascaping is much better now! What do you guys think?

haha, sorry endparen. I meant to say adrinal! Thanks to you, too :) And drobbins, it may be hurting me in the STOTM but I gotta say I love the red rocks! I grew up in the sahara desert so this kinda reminds me of home or something like that :) Sorry to dissapoint, but I love it how it is!

Heyman, its your tank. I love it anyways, oneof the coolest Ive seen. Maybe you could complement the rocks with more green plants rather than the red ones :/
