So im going to be going away to school in September and I know I cant bring all my betta kids with me -_-
Im trying to figure out a way to cut down on alot of the work because my parents are going to be the ones looking after them and there not thrilled at that fact
So what I think I might be doing is putting 4 of my boys into a spare 10 gallon tank that I have and putting in a filter.
What filter would you recamend and how often would the water need to be changed?
Thanks in advance for the advice! :fun:

I would say 20-30% weekly would be just fine, with filter maintenance, and dividers of course. A heater should be used too.

Yes defentally a heater. I think they could manage doing 25% water changes a week :)
Now about the filter - Which kind do you recamend?
Thanks :D

All sumbersable heaters are good. Try to get one with the dial on top to set to a certin temperature, more exact.

I would go with an Aqua Clear Mini for the filter, with 2 sponges. They are built well, do an excellent job. I run them on 20 gallons, with an additional sponge filter, tanks are loaded with angels, they would really be considered overstocked. I need to clean them every 2nd or 3rd week, I'll bet you could get by monthly with 4 bettas. If you extend the intake you don't have to shut them off during water changes, I change 50% without shutting them off. Many other filters choke when you try this. This will make it easier on your parents, 1 less thing to turn off & start up.

25% weekly should be a nice amount for a water change with 4 bettas, 50% would be better if they feel enthusiastic. It's easy to eyeball half a tank.

If you don't have a submersable heater, you may want to get one, & mount it low in the tank, in case they forget to turn it off during water changes. Bare bottom would be best, as they can see what they are cleaning.

I use HOBs, as they are the best IMO. Just make sure you kill the current.

I just saw the post that I quoted. I have a aqua mini right now on my girls tank and its working so maybe I will get one of thoese !
Thanks :)

One problem with dividing it in four is that you are NOT going to have much space between the dividers to hang the filter into. Unless you rig it somehow... I'd just get a good gravel vac and do water changes. Sponge filters are hard to find that'll handle 10 gallons... hmm... if someone has a good one, send me a link to where you got it!! Please??

Maybe I could just put 3 bettas in there and use the 4th compartment for the filter? How do you people divide the tank with 4 bettas and with a filter?
