Sweet looking tank. I have not got the patience to tie moss to wood like that.

Patience is not something I'm blessed with either. TBH it wasn't so hard after I'd done the first one, just tie a loop at one end then wind the thread round and round and tie off at the other end.

Inhabitants due to arrive tomorrow. Probably overambitious but I decided to go with crystal bee shrimp. I know I should have started with cherries but I just love the colours of the crystals. I ordered a 10 of these guys, hopefully will get something like 50/50 mix of black and red.

It is a pity you live in the UK or I would be pestering you to buy some of those shrimp.

Just hoping they live long enough to breed, I have no experience at all with shrimp, I only know what I've read.

Shrimp arrived today, I hadn't realised how small they were. I ordered 10 Mixed and I got 12, happy days.  Five red and seven black I think. They seemed to settle in well and were swimming/walking about. They all looked healthy so I watched then for 30 mins or so, great to watch them going about their business. Had a coffee then got my camera, hey presto disappearing shrimp. I managed to get one good pic. The problem is focussing on something so small amongst all the plants and stuff. Really pleased with this purchase, they even came with a little java moss and some frogbit (I think) The picture I got is one of the biggest ones.

They look like little walking candy canes. =3

The tank looks great, BTW!

Got an outbreak of what seems to be brown hair algae. Apparently this is common in new set ups. I may need to take a trip to the lfs and pick up two or three ottos who I believe will eat it, and will be safe with my shrimp. If the algae clears up and stays clear I can then add them to my group of 6 in the main tank.

Vegetation still looking a bit brown and hair grass doesn't seem to be growing or spreading but at least its not dead yet. Although the picture doesn't show it some of the algae is quite long. Purchased 5 ottos to help with the algae and a courgette (zucchini) as a treat. The shrimps love it, the ottos have a quick graze in passing and move onto hopefully eat my algae.

Looking good, I have not had much luck with hair grass myself. Bought a load of a moderator (who since moved on) but he had cut it all down to the roots and I think I was probably duped! Tried once more and it seemed ok at first then struggled again. I feel the light was just not strong enough for it.

Looking forward to seeing this tank mature and getting more tiny shrimps appearing, good luck.
