10 Gallon Nano Tank Diary

ahh finally found the thread again!

long story short.

the tank WAS cycled...untill i went out of town for a week. got it all back up to par, got rid of some of the damsels i had.

tank now has about 15 #'s of LR, a blue devil damsel and a 3 spotted black damsel. 2 hermits, 1 snail and 2 mystery starfish things...i have no idea where they came from but theyre growing so i will leave them. today i am going to get a light, and and some more CUC. i will get some pics up in a bit.

well guys as you can see i am horrible at updating my diary

i have done some work to the tank. took out my "engineered" live rock, as it never did anything. for now i still have 1 blue devil damsel for fish. 2 blue hermits, and 4 zebra hermits. also have a astrea and margarita snail. today i am going to get more snails. i also picked up 2 pieces of rock for free yesterday :good: both of which i need help id'ing.

i have had a HUGE brown algea outbreak, so im hoping that buying more snails will help combat this, since i only have 2 for now. what else is good for combatting brown algea? i think i am also going to pick up a small goby and small tang. i was told the tang will eat all the alge, and the goby will clean the substrate.

here's some pics:

i believe these to be zoanthus, but not sure. they still havent fully opened.

another shot

the fuzzy thing right in the middle, is about 1.5" across. kinda reminds me of an anemone, but i have no clue what it is.

another shot, as you can see it has moved itself.

full tank shot (excuse the mess):

if you look closely directly to the left of the hermit, on the green rock, you can see one "polyp"(i have no idea what it is). on the top of this frag there are several more. i think i am going to move the whole frag from the direct stream of water from the powerhead, since it is quite strong.

any advice greatly appriciated. and please help with id's!!

10 gallon is really too small for any type of Tang, in reality they swim alot and therefore need a minimum of 75g.

You have some zoanthids and what looks to be some kind of mushroom, need a closer picture to ID it further though. Cannot see the other polyp clearly enough to ID.

yes, my 10 gallon is small for a tang, but this tang is about 1". by the time he gets bigger my 135 will be ready :yahoo: if not, the LFS said they will take him back, but i am still i the air about it. i'm leaning towards waiting and finding a more suitable fish.

one of my friends has one of these super fancy cameras. hopefully today i can get him to come over and snap some shots. these were all cell phone pics

nice pictures mate! like the scaping!

thanks! i am slowly adding frags in to make it higher along the back, but keeping plenty of sand out front.

just picked up 4 more astrea snails to help clean, and a goby (dont know what type yet, the gy at the LFS is an idiot)

more pics:

i also fond out the thing on the small rock is a rock/flower anemone.

more pics to come as i get more stuff!

can anyone help me ID this goby? i have searched online, but cant find one like him.

Looks like a watchman goby - they can lose their colour when stressed - colour will come back when he is happy :good:

:fish:

thanks seffie! hopefully he will get his colors back soon. he has been digging some tunnels, but he isnt really eating

lovely goby mate

thanks bagu!! i do like him, i just hope he decides to like my tank as much as i like him

i took pics of te goby to another LFS and he is a watchman goby. so i geuss i need a pistol shrimp now:D

picked up some zoas on a branch and a small frag of sunburst polyps. will get some pics up tongiht!!

You don't need a pistol shrimp and if you buy him there's no gaurantee they'll pair up. Check to see what they pair with naturally. I believe it's the Tiger pistol. I researched about them a while ago before I bought my yasha goby pair w/my pistol.

As for getting the watchman to eat...Can you post any current pictures of him? in that one his belly looked a little sunken in. Has he eaten that you know of since you've had him? How is that damsel in the tank? That's probably the reason why he's not.

COMMON NAME: Blue Devil Damsel

OTHERS: Blue Damsel

SCIENTIFIC: Chrysiptera Cyrea

ADULT SIZE: 2.4 or (6cm)

RANGE: Indo-pacific region, Northern part of the Great Barrier Reef

MINIMUM AQUARIUM SIZE: 10g (l) (If this is the only fish in the aquarium)

SOCIAL: CAUTION - A very aggressive species. They will become a threat to each other and other fish that are less aggressive or similar in size. Their prescence will make life difficult or impossible for a mild mannered community. As the fish gets older they live up to their name, devil. If they are kept in groups, keep one male to several females. They become territorial when kept in these groups.
