Hi. I put my prego molly and prego platty into breeder tank last night and 2nite I noticed 1 new fry. I've looked with torch but that's all I can find so far without disturbing tank. It's silver and same size as the new born platty fry were last time. Plus the platty fry were a cream colour last time.
I've never seen new born molly fry thats why I need the help to make sure I haven't removed the wrong mama.
I don't know what size new molly fry are, are they the same or bigger size than platty fry? my last 2 molly fry were silver. Mama is dalmation. I've removed the plotty coz she looked smaller but I'm really not sure. The molly is a bigger risk to my 1 remaining fry, having a bigger mouth and all.
If there's any sure way to tell the difference, can you please help. Also, the new fry is longer, which makes me think that maybe it is a molly fry.
Thankyou to anyone that may be able to help me solve my problem.
Also, I've got a sponge filter, whats the chance of the new fry swimming inside? if they do, will they swim back out or will they die? would I be better to remove the filter til they're bigger.
SOrry about the novel. :*)

What type of platy do you have? If its a red wag or lyretail then its the molly. If your platy is a light colored mickey mouse, then it could be both. when the fry get to be about 15 days old, you should be able to tell. Put one of the fish in a floating breeder tank in the big breeder tank. Then you should be able to find out. Lift up all your decorations and look under them for more fry. Those little things can fit anywhere! Hope you find out who's the momma.

all my platties are orange and yellow or red/orange or yellow/orange, all except one male that's a silver and red one. I think it is a molly now that I look at it. It's got a longer body than the platy fry had. I'll wait and see tho.

Why would I have got only 1 fry. there are so many plants in my tank - java moss, java fern, grassy things etc. I thought there would be lots of fry, but there's still only 1.

Livebearers are known for eating their fry. As soon as my guppy was done giveing birth, she was after her fry like she hadn't eaten in days. Did you check under the decorations?
