Hey guys quick question :

I had 0.25 ppm. Nitrites in my newly cycled tank n zero ammonia.

A few fish died not sure if bcause of the nitrites or something else.
I was planning a 50% water change to do today but my wife had a bad scare with her leg last night n we went to the hospital today after we both were off work n just came home n I'm really tired.
Due that I have 0.25 nitrites in the tank can I do the water change tomorrow or it would b too dangerous to wait any longer for the water change ?

Please advice asap, I will b waiting for ur advice right now. Thank you all

Tyler

Add salt. In this thread
TwoTankAmin gave some good advice about dealing with nitrite.

The amount to add is detailed in the second half of this (the first half is about ammonia)

Following the thread,
#1 multiply the nitrite reading by 10 - Your reading is 0.25, so 0.25 x 10 = 2.5
#2 calculate the volume of the tank in litres. - If this is the 125 gallon tank, that's 470 litres using the calculator on here.
#3 multiply the 10 times reading in #1 by the volume in #2. - 2.5 x 470 = 1175
#4 multiply the number from #3 by 1.5 - 1175 X 1.5 = 1762 Then divide that number by 1000 - 1762/1000 - 1.762

You need 1.75 (one and three quarter) grams of salt. Take a bit of water out of the tank, dissolve the salt in that then pour the water back into the tank spreading it all over the surface.

Thank you essjay, I'd been talking to him for the last 3 days n followed his advice.

By the way I added the alt last night when can I test the water again ?

Has the level changed over the last few days or remained the same?

If it's changed I would test every day. If the nitrite reading increases you'll need to add more salt, but only the amount for the increase not the the whole reading.
If it's the same, test every couple of days to make sure it's still staying the same.

Once nitrite drops to zero, you won't need the salt so it can be removed as you do water changes.
