How To Add A Bit Of Sand To A Gravel Tank?

you could easily just take the gravel out, put some sand in, and then put the gravel on top of the sand. but there is no way of containing the sand to a certian area. since it will go where ever it gets moved to. also, you could just put the sand on top of the gravel, and in time it will work...

    Sub-substrate For New Sand Tank

if you are planing on having a fully planted tank, or even a tank with several plants, you should either put Laterite, or Floro-base (sp) down as your first substrate. this will provide your plants with a lot of nutrients that they need, and also a good meduim for a root establishment as well.

    First Layer Laterite

sorry dont mean to hijack your topic here, but i have just one quick question. what exactly is laterite? i understand what it does, but is it a certian kind of rock, or substance that you can buy at a landscaping place so you do not have to pay so much at the highly over priced fish stores?

Why Isnt My Co2 Producing Anything?

Why Isnt My Co2 Producing Anything?

i added about another cup and a half of sugar, and the rest of the yeast from the package, so thats like 2.25 tsp of that in there, and it started the reaction while i putting the lid back on since it was getting rather warm, and it was fizzing. im assuming this is what is suppose to happen...

Why Isnt My Co2 Producing Anything?

well should i just have doubled the sugar, so instead of 2 cups, it shoulda been 4 cups? thinking behind only adding 2 cups was because i figured the water was just so the sugar can disolve and the reaction can take place. as water does in a chemistry experiment, only there to make the...

Why Isnt My Co2 Producing Anything?

i mixed up my recipe about 3 hrs ago and nothing has happened. either my diffuser is working extremly well as the bubbles are so small you cant even see them, or nothing is being made. im guessing it is the second one here unfortunatly. the mix is in a 1 gallon gatorade bottle consisting of...

Holding Plants Down In Sand Substrate

well then that would be an easy to solve problem. just simply attach some lead weights to the plants until the roots take off. and then later just remove them so you do not have to see them when the sand moves around. and what i was referring to as window screens is exactly what i ment it is...

Holding Plants Down In Sand Substrate

tank has some cichlids and an albino catfish, that is soon to be moved to out fish pond at home due to its size. and for the proding of sand that does make sense, but i guess you could take a little screwdriver like ones for fixing eye glasses, and since it should fit between the screen holes...

Holding Plants Down In Sand Substrate

yea no problem..... lay your first layer of substrate, sand, gravel, moon sand, whatever you want to use. then take the window screen and lay it on your your table, or floor anything large and flatt so you can cut it to size, (width and length of tank). then lay your plants out where you...

Holding Plants Down In Sand Substrate

    Lights

hello once again everyone, yet another question on plants here. i just got a new light system for my 30 gallon tank, but the lights that are in it are only 20 watts a piece, so i only have like 1.33 watts per gallon. and 20 watts are the strongest bulbs i can find around here or on ebay. so...

    New Convicts

i myself would not keep 8 convicts in anything less than a 40 gallon. but that is just my opinion, i know you will get some other people to say to keep them in like a 75+ gallon tank. the main reason because convicts breed rather rapidy, and once you have a mating pair, they will take over...
