man, i feel lucky reading your guys' posts. i went garage sale shopping a couple months backed, and picked up a 30 long, with the hood, lights, stand, emperor 400 filter, for only 5 american bucks.... and everything works perfectly...

well if they just said that 75 gallons was the bare minimum for 2 oscars, i really dont think three in a tank that is only 5 gallons more will work.

just curious, what size is your tank, because silver sharks need to be in groups, and grew rather large?

you could put it in a cooler. this is how i transport my fish. or you could put it in some other sort of a tub.

you could easily just take the gravel out, put some sand in, and then put the gravel on top of the sand. but there is no way of containing the sand to a certian area. since it will go where ever it gets moved to. also, you could just put the sand on top of the gravel, and in time it will work...

if you are planing on having a fully planted tank, or even a tank with several plants, you should either put Laterite, or Floro-base (sp) down as your first substrate. this will provide your plants with a lot of nutrients that they need, and also a good meduim for a root establishment as well.

sorry dont mean to hijack your topic here, but i have just one quick question. what exactly is laterite? i understand what it does, but is it a certian kind of rock, or substance that you can buy at a landscaping place so you do not have to pay so much at the highly over priced fish stores?

yea, it was extremly frustrating, i was like alright now, any moment i will see bubbles. ok maybe after 10 minutes i will. maybe after an hour. but finally it worked. lol

well i take it back guys, it is making bubbles. very very very small ones at that. i moved the rock that was holding the upside down bottom 1/5 of a water bottle so i could see all of the diffuser, and it is making bubbles!!!

i myself would not keep 8 convicts in anything less than a 40 gallon. but that is just my opinion, i know you will get some other people to say to keep them in like a 75+ gallon tank. the main reason because convicts breed rather rapidy, and once you have a mating pair, they will take over...
