I recently won this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

I need to transport the tank about 40 miles and the current owner needs me to take the fish too.

I dont really want the fish but as she doesn't either I plan to take them to my LFS (I may keep the Clown Loach as I have two of them already).

Can anyone give me any advice on how to transport these as I'm guessing an 8.5" Catfish is a bit big to bag up

Thanks

you could put it in a cooler. this is how i transport my fish. or you could put it in some other sort of a tub.

Are you keeping the Plec?? ??? I would love one !

I live nr Doncaster, and i recently got 2 tanks, the person selling lived around half n hour drive away, they double bagged me the fish i wanted, and the filter foams etc.. :

Then we put them securely into a box, so that they didnt move around etc... i sat with this box on my knee the whole way home lol (i wasnt driving)

Where abouts in Doncaster do they live?

Congrats on the tank, Good price too !! :D

YOu could get some 5 gallon buckets with lids at the local home improvement store (Lowes and Home Depot in the states, don't know about over there). Also, some types tuppreware storage containers would work. We use the ones that are about 18" x 24" to store stuff. Those would work fine. Just don't fill them too full of water as it will slosh everywhere.

For the catfish I would definitely recommend some type of plastic container with lid. Preferably one that isn't see through to transport the catfish as this would be less stressful. As for the remaining fish bagging them should be fine. If you have a cooler place the bags in it to try and keep the temperature as steady as possible. Also, you will want to put the filter media in a bag of tank water to keep the bacteria alive. The 5 gal buckets are a great way to keep a lot of tank water!

Edited for spelling.

Are you keeping the fish? The 'PENGASIUS CAT FISH' is brackish and gets too big, the clown loach, schooling and gets too big and the plec will get too big. The other 'small fish' look like they're all black widow tetras.

EDIT- Just noticed the topic in catfish, bear in mind to make sure people know its brackish though and will need careful acclimation to SW.

I have a two foot tank and intend transferring fish from that (not really got any room for more than one tank at present)

I want to keep the clown loach as I have two of them already and really like them, the rest I'm indifferent about keeping tbh

FYI, the clown loaches are going to need a bigger tank than the 3ft in the long run...

The water doesn't contain any good bacteria but tranporting at least 75% of the water is a good idea so that you can set the tank up and add the fish directly back into it rather than having to acclimate them. It will be far less stressful on the fish if you can simply release the fish into the same water they came out of than having to accimate them to "new" water. And since you can't bag the catfish, I don't know how you would acclimate him anyway.

For the large fish go to your LFS and ask for a polystyrene fish box line it with polythene and pop on the lid this will surfice until you transport it to them.

I've transported fish on half hour trips several times and have always done so in a cooler without any problems.... just make sure to wash the cooler out if you use one.
