It's an hour away but I don't drive. I could probably arrange something but would rather not hassle anyone for it. But I'd still need to find out if they can even get it in.
Hello all!
I haven't kept any aquatics for a while now, about a year and was thinking of getting back in to it.
I was thinking of a triple shrimp set up using the Aqua One Betta Trio Aquarium. I'm quite set on it as its all I have space for.
Does anyone know where I could buy one online? I...
Thank you, it has grown quite a bit since then :)
6 Spotted Blue-eye rainbow fish, 10+ cherry shrimp, 3 juvenile guppies (which I'm unsure what to do with them), 1 zebra snail, and one assassin snail.
Haha, how come you fancy a change?
So here is a quick update. I wasted about £25 on carpeting plants. So I gave up on those. I am using rotala as my carpeting plant now. I've been trimming them so they sprout out to the sides to create a bushy carpet effect.
The Heteranthera has been growing quite fast so that's all good. :)
Yeah extremely slow haha. The carpeting plant that I have now is just dying off slowly and some bits are growing. Think I'm going to go with a rotala carpet sort of thing. I am going to trim it a lot so it grows out side shoots and becomes bushy and then keep it short, similar to some sort of...
You had a lot of light then. :P Not sure mine is hitting the bottom enough as I've had no luck with any carpeting plants. Last one I'm trying is Hydrocotyle tripartita. Hope this one turns out better.
Cheers archer, that'll be good to know.
I've spent about £25 on carpeting plants so getting to the point where I'm thinking to just use my rotala and trim it short. xD
I was very interested in getting HC but a lot of people seem to have problems with it. I may have a go at it. I'm thinking about hydrocotyle tripartita too. :S
Ah right so I'll move the filter so it faces the front. The stargrass isn't in the flow nor is it blocked by any light :S
I also heard if the lighting is too high, some plants may grow lower and more compact. Is that true? And does it apply to rotala and stargrass?
Hello,
I am just wondering what is causing my plants to grow like this. Is it to do with lighting or something?
It is in a bit of flow from the filter so I thought it may have been pushing it down.
The bottom of the pic shows it best.
Any help or ideas to what is causing this? My star...
Yeah they seem pretty hard to get hold of. Try a breeder perhaps? The only way I can get them here is one guy selling eggs when he feels like it and the other who seems to have these fish as juveniles in a shop and just posts them. So just the 2. :)
Small update:
Did not like the Pogostemon helferi so I chucked that. I've ordered Marsilea hirsuta. It looked a lot different to anything in my tank.
There was one Heteranthera that had grown huge but was growing along the floor instead for some reason. No idea why haha. So I trimmed a bit...
Seems HC is a bit of a pain and would do better with injected Co2.
Out of those, techen, I think I like the look of Glossostigma Elatinoides.
So I guess maybe either Glossostigma or Marsilea?
I'll have a look which one would do better in my tank.
Hello all,
I recently started a planted tank and its been going really well except for the carpeting plants. I've tried eleocharis which has been a bit of a hit and miss. I've also tried pogostemon helferi which I can't really tell if it's growing or not. But just in case it doesn't do well...
Thanks for all the replies!
I do actually have the master test kit by API but ran out or lost the pH so just wanted a separate one. And one that does the whole thing, not just high range.
Trust me, I'm glad I have the master kit. New set up with juvenile shrimp and tiny egg hatched fry.

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a pH test kit. Could anyone recommend me a good one?
Also, I was wondering if test strips are accurate with pH. I know ones for ammonia nitrite and nitrate don't tend to be very good but I am unsure with pH.
Thanks. :)
Hello,
So I've got 10 cherry shimp and 10 fry. I bought some fry food today and I read on the back it contains copper (copper sulphate) 1.5mg/kg. Packet is 10g. I only plan on feeding this powder 2-3 times a week and I do 2 30% - 50% water changes a week. The amount of food will be very small...
18 hatched in total now. Bought 8 more shrimp for maintenance. The new ones are so small! :L
Everything in my tank is tiny! haha
Nitrates snuck up and were hitting 40 - 80 so did a big water change.
I think 6-7 fry may have died. Either eaten or the nitrates. Or even just hiding It's hard to...
7 more eggs hatched. only 5 left. So far its a 75% hatch rate which I'm impressed with. :) So hard to find them in a 32L. I'm hoping none died :L
All the plants still growing slowly but looks rather healthy. I'll post a picture in a week or two.
So 4 from each bag has hatched so now there are 8 fry in total. I've let them out of the bags and kept the eggs in the bags. They love the floating plants so that's all good. :) Very happy with the hatch rate. There may be more because I did put some eggs in the main tank before.
Besides that...
Yeah I'm not really that lucky with these things so thats good.
Yes, they hopefully shall grow up to look like my profile picture.
I think there are 20 eggs altogether but it looks like there are 10 left I think.
Thank you, the male's fins caught my eye too. I like the bits of yellow too.
Oh good, thank you for that, luckily I chose the right plants for these fish.
Well I decided to mix it up to see what works best. I put some in a container of aged tap water (apparently tank water may contain...
Yeah, I'll cut the line in a week or two. Haha basically everything just needs to GROW and spread now.
I was going to keep the fry thing quiet but I got too excited. :P They are not Killifish unfortunately. They would of been but I failed at hatching those.
These are Pseudomugil gertrudae...
More good news! :)
The Pogostemon helferi arrived. A bit confusing and annoying to plant but nicely spread now.
And the eggs hatched! :D The fry are so tiny. 4 - 5 hatched so far. Since I don't have a fry tank, I'm going to wrap the filter and let them in to the main tank and hopefully the...
Well got my new java moss, looks great, adds a nice colour of green xD
Pogostemon helferi should arrive tomorrow or the day after.
Stargrass is growing nicely. I cut the tops of the rotala and replanted them. My tank seems to make the leaves green on top with a fade of red on the bottom which...
