Hello all,

I recently started a planted tank and its been going really well except for the carpeting plants. I've tried eleocharis which has been a bit of a hit and miss. I've also tried pogostemon helferi which I can't really tell if it's growing or not. But just in case it doesn't do well...

What carpeting plant would you suggest?

Here is some info on my tank
32L Rectangle. (AquaSpace) So maybe not big carpeting plants?
50W Heater (temp. 24c)
10x turnover 320Lp/h
18w lighting over it 9 hours a day
Fertiliser Neutro+
Co2 Neutro Co2 Liquid Carbon

All my other plants have been growing really well such as the heteranthera, rotala and pistia stratiotes (which doesn't block much light.)

I was thinking HC if anyone thinks that would be good? I quite like the look of that.

Thanks all!

or Marsilea hirsuta?

As you may be able to tell, I would like something small because my tank is pretty small.

Hairgrass is fairly simple

There's also Glossostigma Elatinoides
Eleocharis Aciularis
Different types of Ricca
Micranthemum SP
Sagittaria Dwarf
Echinodorus Tenellus
Hemianthus Callitrichoides
Hydrocotyle

Seems HC is a bit of a pain and would do better with injected Co2.

Out of those, techen, I think I like the look of Glossostigma Elatinoides.

So I guess maybe either Glossostigma or Marsilea?

I'll have a look which one would do better in my tank.

HC survives with liquid ok, and grows, but its way faster with CO2 gas, dwarf sag grows fairly tall, you can always carpet with crypts ( im going to be doing a carpet of crypts soon (i hope)  when i set up my other tank

I was very interested in getting HC but a lot of people seem to have problems with it. I may have a go at it. I'm thinking about hydrocotyle tripartita too. :S

iv never had a problem with HC, and i grew it with DIY co2, only problem iv had is a die back in my propagator, but  thats effected many plants ( somethings killing them off)

Does it need Co2? I'm dosing liquid Co2 and ferts as I've only got this tank for a year.

I've literally just finished putting down the contents of three pots of "Staurogyne reopens" from Tropica 1.2.Grow along side two tubs of "Eleocharis
sp. 'mini'" for my 1st carpet attempt, will let you know how it turns out

Cheers archer, that'll be good to know.

I've spent about £25 on carpeting plants so getting to the point where I'm thinking to just use my rotala and trim it short. xD

iv kept mine alive with liquid only, but it was struggling, a bit but it dident die, when i stopped doseing liquid and DIY then it just died off abit, so it needs some co2

I've got an 18w over a 32L long. Reckon that would be sufficient lighting for HC?

i had 50w/60L i'll let you do the maths, but i had a lot more light than i needed

You had a lot of light then. :p Not sure mine is hitting the bottom enough as I've had no luck with any carpeting plants. Last one I'm trying is Hydrocotyle tripartita. Hope this one turns out better.
