    New Filter

Come on ladies! 75% of responses are from men. I know you are out there, so here is the survey. :) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QMJDZCS :good:

    New Filter

Thanks. I plan do do an animation of the filter to show a bit more clearly how the filter works, but i am running out of time now. In response to your question about how the pump can be kept running? On the rear of the filter is a compartment that houses the pump, and this is seperate from the...

    New Filter

Thanks to those who have filled out my survey already. It would be good to get some more feedback, so if anyone has not done it yet, it would be good if you could, and it only takes a minute to complete. Here is the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QMJDZCS Thanks again Nick

    Running Costs

For a medium-large filter pump running 24 hours a day and 100w of lights running 10 hours a day, 365 days a year, works out at between £50-60 a year. On top of this you have to add on heater running costs (which depend on how hot your room temperature is),food, medication, filter media, fish...

    New Filter

Hi all, Some of you might remember filling out my survey a few months ago for a design course that i am doing. I set myself the task of coming up with an alternative filter design, (which has proved to be pretty difficult). I have finally come up with a concept and produced a pretty rough 3D...

Hi, And Just A Moment Of Your Time

Thanks to all who have filled out my survey so far. I have had some good responses. :good: I was wondering whether anyone on here is, or knows anyone that is disabled and owns an aquarium. I would be interested to know how you would cope with aquarium maintenance (cleaning filters, glass etc)...

Hi, And Just A Moment Of Your Time

Thanks to everyone so far who has filled in my survey on fishkeeping. I have some good data so far, and some good comments/ideas too. If anyone hasn't filled it out already i would appreciate it if you could (only takes a couple of minutes). This will help me design something that people really...

    Ups For An Aquarium

I lost power for 24 hours during the winter. Luckily i didn't lose any fish, and my tank is quite heavily stocked. Must get a generator though.

    Ammonia In Tap Water

Hi, dodgy test kit i would say. I get the same reading with my API test kit on a mature tank with loads of filtration. You could try a different test kit if you are worried.

    Ive Almost Had Enough

Hi, I understand your worry. I can only speak of my personal experience with Nutrafin cycle and i have had good results with it. I had a power cut during the summer and the my filters were not running for 24 hours; I put some cycle in and didn't have any problems. With reference to you Ammonia...

    Ive Almost Had Enough

Stop the 50-70% daily water changes. All you are doing is giving the bacteria nothing to work on and your tank will take forever to cycle. If you can get some mature media as others have said, do so. If not, get some Nutrafin cycle or similar and use that. It does work.

Do A Lot Of Small Fish Look Silly In A Large Tank?

More corys and then more corys. Love these little fellas-full of character.

    Filter Flow Rates

I have a wave maker in my tank. This can be angled to provide good water movement where needed. My tank is not planted though, so i don't know if this would be suitable for you.

    Filter Flow Rates

Hi, as long as your filter can cope with the bio load you should be fine. You can have the most powerfull pump in the world but if it isn't pulling the water through enough filter material it is pointless. The filters on my tank do circulate 10x the water volume, but i do have malawi cichlids...
