    my sick guppy!

SALT WILL KILL YOUR ALGAE EATER! I wouldn't recommend it, and guppies are extremely sensitive fish too, especially to salt. Use medication for Fin Rot, and steer clear of the salt!

    1 year on

You and me both! I think Guppies are incredibly sensitive and abort quite easily. My mollies have been breeding like rabbits, as have my ancistrus, but for the life if me I can't get my guppies to do it. I've given up being hopeful, and hopefully it'll happen when I least expect it. :dunno:

    Just saw the coolest/weirdest thing

so that's what they're doing, it almost looked as though he was just bullying her....but now I know. Although it is so quick, I doubt I'd even get to see any of the "gondo" movement etc. Thanks for the tip though :D

    Just saw the coolest/weirdest thing

So how do they do it then? My mollies breed like rats, every week she's dropping off more kiddies, but I've never seen how they do it. I do manage to see the males chasing her, but never doing the act, and I'm curious, since they're livebearers.....

    ancistruses

i would say so. If they're usually quite flirtatious in the tank, usually playing with /near each other and get along well, and you've seen the male frantically cleaning out his nest recently, then I'd say you're probably onto a winner. Just before they "do their thing", you'll see him...

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.... Did you do the regular water checks for PH, Nitrite and Nitrate. I don't think they have any special requirements other than really needing to be kept in groups: Origin: India and Bangladesh Maximum Size: Usually around 3". Care: They are gregarious and...

New(ish)bie Just Setup New Tropical Tank

Hiya, and welcome. As said above, follow the advice for the newcomers.... Snails are a right pain in the &*^ so try to get rid of them because they don't stop breeding, especially when your tank is warm and there's lots of leftover food. You can get fish that eat snails and their...

    Too many mollies!

Speak to your lfs and ask them whether they might take some off your hands. They're usually prepared to buy them back off you at a lower price, although they normally want them when they're a bit bigger. But hey, it's worth asking. Keep in mind that Mollies store sperm, so they're going to...

new fish owner needing help w/ mollies

Do the spots look like grains of salt on their bodies? Mollies are usually quite hardy fish, so I hope they pull through this. I've read VERY mixed reports on using salt in a tank....and I'd steer clear of using salt at all....majority of people and pet shops don't recommend you use it unless...

    Albino Baby Ancistrus

Thanks guys for the help. They've lasted for a few weeks now and are getting quite big, so I hope they won't be dying off. They're really cute, I kinda hope they stay white, but if they darken, it's okay too, as long as they're happy and healthy.

Hi guys, my bristlenose pair have had their second batch of wee ones. Of the first batch , only one or two made it, but they look like their folks. The second batch, 4 have survived (I didn't separate them from the rest of the tank), but 2 of them are SNOW WHITE. It's been weeks now, and...

    ADDING SALT?

Hiya all, I've just been to the pet shop because my housemate over-fed my fish and almost killed the lot. I've been given all-sorts for stress and parasites, which is fine, but also salt, and there's no instructions on the box. Do I just add the salt to the water (I did a massive tank clean...
