Hi All,

I thought I'd drop in and say hello and tell you about my new tank :D (and a bit about my old one :( ). I have a couple of quick questions I'd like answered and hope you don't mind me asking them here. I'm sure they're answered elsewhere, but I'm not sure what to look for ATM.

I had a 2ft cold water tank for 3 years with several fancy goldfish, but introducing a new fish had disasterous results and I ended up loosing them all (yep, I know, I'm still recovering from the shock of it all now ).

Anyway, I thoroughly cleansed my old tank ready for some new tropical stock, but then got the 'wants' and decided to buy this...

The Juwel Rio 190. I had the tank setup for a week then introduced 6 (excuse me) little silver neons ?name? :*) and they seem to be doing OK for the past week.

I also planted all the plants you see in the picture and I'm shocked about the number of snails that have suddenly appeared. Are these healthy or unhealthy for my tank? Will they eventually eat all my plants?

The other thing that has been a concern was my PH levels, but having read the beginners guides tonight, I'm now considering throwing out the bottle of "PH Down" I've been using for the past few days to try to get a PH of 7 ish. What do you think? I've added about 25ml over the past week and the colour of the test results still hasn't changed!

Finally, I've now noticed a lot of white strands on all the plants. Is this a consequence of the PH Down? or could it be some sort of unhealthy growth?

I'm sure I'll have loads of other questions in the coming weeks, but will do my best to use your search button first!

Regards,

Jeremy

these questions can probably be answered in the tropical chit chat area....i personally have no clue as to the answer for your questions, so all i can do is welcome you! lol...

welcome to the forums! but you should be warned ahead of time that this place is VERY addicting!! it's a great place to ask all your questions, and even help other newbies out once you get more expirienced in things. enjoy your stay here!

I agree with Steppy, ask in Tropical Chit Chat as you will get more replies from other members :D

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy it here :hi:

Your tank looks great! :D

Hiya, and welcome. As said above, follow the advice for the newcomers....

Snails are a right pain in the &*^ so try to get rid of them because they don't stop breeding, especially when your tank is warm and there's lots of leftover food.
You can get fish that eat snails and their eggs...so although it may take a while to get rid of them, they should all eventually go. I bought a set of boatias the other day and they've worked wonders on my tank. Alternatively, you can get anti-snail medication from your lfs.

Good luck
