How Often Should I Do A Water Change?

Hey.. I've had my tank for about 14 months now. We've had a fair share of deaths in the tank most of the fish are only fairly short lived fish anyway. I'm trying to get the tank in as good a shape as possible to restock around christmas. I was wondering how often people do a water change...

    Weak Platy

We've had him since around october 2004. This sign doesnt seem to be permanent, it sort of appears then goes after a couple of days. Most of the other fish seem ok, apart from one of the other platy's which seems a little slower (but other than that, fine). By the way, I don't know the sex...

    Test Kits

Wow, thats cool. We recently got our water tested and found that we had ammonia, what is the best way to get rid of this? We have some Nutrafin Cycle, and I am going to do a 20% water change asap... any advice? thanks.

    Weak Platy

Hi, Recently i have noticed that one of my platy's is looking a bit more flimsy than normal, and seems considerably thinner than normal. i then noticed that when feeding the fish, that platy doesnt seem to be able to get there in time because its a bit slow. I was wondering if its a good idea...

    Next step...

We did have another bronze cory but it died not too long ago. We also used to have 8 neons but two of them died too. Sad story really. :-( I'm not too sure what algae eaters we have, I wasn't there when my dad went to buy them and now he can't remember. Do you have a link which has...

    Next step...

Hey, I've had my tank since early August 2004, so its about 8 months old. Have a look at my signature to see what fish I have. Things seem to be settling down now, and I was thinking about where to go next. Shall I wait for a few months then rethink, or shall I get some new fish? More...

    Mushy peas...

I've tried feeding peas to my fish several times. They do seem interested, and try to eat it, but they're to small to take them in in one go, they keep nibbling till they get bored. I boil them, then let them cool and crush them as much as i can, but there are still chunks in there.... Any help?

    Platys bulging

I don't think that their scales are poking out. What do you mean by 'dry food'? What is a 'non - dry' food? And isn't it pinecone? lol

    Platys bulging

At the moment, I'm giving flakes pellets alternating every day. I leave out two days a week. Sometimes I give bloodworms instead of the flakes / pellets. What sort of feeding do you do?
  21. A

    Platys bulging

I'm quite worried about some of my fish. Recently, the platy's and neon tetras have been bulging around the underside of the stomach. I thought that maybe this was jsut general growth, but just now I realised that on one of the platy babies has got a serious bulge. some of the tetra's are...

    Angels Kissing

Is this the same for Platys? I have 2 red platy's, one a bit bigger than the other one, and they often seem to chase each other round all over the tank. don't know about the lip locking though...

    Brown algae

My tank has been set up for nearly 4 months now, but for the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of brown algae appearing around the bottom of the glass and now going up the glass. Whats going on?

    Bloodworms

Yes I've read that, it was very informative. So, I should stick to frozen, right?
  25. A

    Bloodworms

Thanks guys. I did think that even half a cube would be too much; there were quite a lot when it thawed out. Also, how do the non-frozen live foods compare to frozen bloodworms? There were some in the shop today where I went, I wasn't sure which was the better option...

    Bloodworms

I bought some bloodworms for my fish today (see signature for details). They came in a packet with cube-shaped compartments. You just sort of pop out the cube of bloodworms, like you do with strepsils :D Can anyone tell me how many / much i shold be feeding them? Thanks.

    my fish want new FOOD

Can anyone suggest some new foods for my fish (see signature). At the moment we're feeding flakes and little pellets, but I don't think the fish are getting enough nutrients and stuff from them; recently they've been looking a bit weak.

    Algae eater

I'm trying to get up a picture on here, but I don't have the software installed so it might be a while. But I'll try and describe it...: It's quite long in comparison to it's width, probably just an inch long and about 8mm wide. The top is a sort of pepper color, like a peppered cory. The...

    Algae eater

I don't have my own test kits, i know i should get some, but we take the water down to the shop whenever we suspect something, and watch them do it. they always come out fine. we feed these things called Algae Wafers, they're pellets. he never comes out to eat them though, he just sits...

    Algae eater

We bought an algae eater last month, I don't know the proper name for it because I wasn't there when my Dad bought it. All it's ever done since we've had it is latch itself onto the back of the filter all day long, in one position. It hardly ever moves. There's some brown algae around the...

    Polystyrene under tank

Hey When we bought our tank, the guys at the shop said make sure you out polystyrene sheets on top of the stand before you put the tank on. But in the leaflet it says you shouldn't, because this voids the warranty. Who should I believe? Not that it really matters now because we put the...

    bOG woOd

Cool, I personally don't really want a brown tint to the water, but then I haven't seen it before. I might go to the shop and see if they've got any tanks set up with this tannin business in it.

    Ok. What are tannins?

Is it a good idea to get real wood in the tank rather than having the fake stuff? At the moment I've got 4 live plants and some fake ornaments, like a little log and a big vase thing. Also, I was thnking of varying the diet, right now I'm doing flakes and pellets, alternating daily. I miss out...
