Was told plecos grow... Is it true

My wife takes care of a tank where she works, 135 gallons, about 72x18x24. She brought home a 14 or 15 inch pleco overnight when she was rebuilding the undergravel filter a couple months ago and doing a full clean up on the tank. The pleco was huge.

    The Pictus

I have 3 in with my 2 Oscars. They do a good job cleaning up the bottom after my Oscars finish eating. My tank is really agressive, so far so good. I've only had my Pictus cats in the tank for about 2 weeks. They are only about 3 inches long and are just now starting to settle down.

Hello ! and Gravel cleaner ??

Hi, welcome. I have two dwarfs... They were the last 2 added to my 40 gallon tank. They hid and were real skittish for the first couple weeks. Now they soar around everywhere. I'd check your amonia levels though especially in your tank being so new. I have a small tiger oscar that swims up and...

Do you think these fish will go together

I agree, $50.00 might set you up with a new 10 gallon if your lfs iis having a sale. I look around. I find a lot of 20 gallon turtle tanks for about 8 to 10 bucks used then buy the filter etc. new. Your looking at about $150 for a decent set up. If I was you though, I wouldn't go smaller than a...

    Soft Water

:S Definatly don't house the neons with the angels. I learned the hard way... My wife's angels ate 5 of my 6 neons before I figured out where the poor little guys were mysteriously disappearing to. lol

    Lace Rock, volcanic rock

I live in Utah and there is a lot of cool lava rock I get free. Its not the red stuff this is very aged and a brown gray. I use it in most of my tanks. It does collect a lot of food and other floating bits.... Once a day I use a turkey baster and blast the bits out. My bio wheel then takes care...

    Female Bettas

I have 3 males and 10 females. Many of the females have just as much if not more personality as the males. I love my female bettas. Infact I'm going to set up another 10 gallon tank with 4 fems and another male in a couple weeks. :fun:

    Betta & zucchini

Hi, you should try a few fresh spinach leaves. My bettas don't care for it too much until it all but breaks down, but a lot of my other fish love the stuff especially my yellow snails. I usually float a couple leaves and weigh one down on the bottom. (WARNING) be sure to soak your vegetables for...

    what should I do?

This is just my opinion so...... :P Most male bettas are kept in small plastic cups for the majority of their early adult lives. They are shipped to fish distributors in small bags with less than a tablespoon of water. Hardly ever do their fins come in contact with anything close to abrasive...

    Do Bettas Prefer Smaller Spaces?

I have a 40 gal tank. I have 1 male betta and 4 female bettas. Their other companions are 2 frogs, 2 small andels, 1 black knife, 1 brown knife, 2 rasberry head goldfish, 4 glass cats, a zig zag, and an unidentified shark-cat, and 3 yellow snails. The tank was heavily planted but the black knife...

    oscars and convicts.

I saw a breeding pair of tiger Oscars. they had to be 16 inches long though one was a bit smaller than the other. They were housed in about a 75 gallon tank with nothing but a thin piece of slate rock in the bottom of the tank, two fish and a rock. They looked way too big to be in that tank...

    tankmates for Archocentrus sajica

Gosh do I feel guilty... :*) I read different forums about tropical fish. My wife of almost 6 years brought home a tank. She had a lot of fish when younger and rekindled that hobby. I'm hooked. We are up to about 150 gallons in 7 different aquariums and are looking for a single aquarium in...

    Drift Wood

Most true drift wood, IE wood that has been floating or laying on the bottom of a pool has probably had everything leeched out of it. Pine isn't the best choice for drift wood in a tank because of the sap but.... If its soaked long enough or boiled long enough the sap will leach out. Caution...

Help with Algae in Betta tank!!!

I heard most snails are a-sexual so you only need 1 and they will multiply. If the tank is in an area where it gets lots of natural light that could be the problem. If a lot of direct sunlight shines on the tank you will get lots of algae.

    Fiddlers die

Hi, I keep loosing my fiddler crabs. I've gone through 7 now and don't plan to add any more to my 55 gallon community tank. Does anyone have any ideas why they die. All the water stats are good, I have rocks built up with a 12 inch by 12 inch peice of slate angled so the crabs can get out of the...

    Sand

    8) Hi, none of the local pet stores here in Utah carry sand for fresh water tanks, not even Wal mart. I've considered buying a 20 pound bag of coarse sand and boiling it then baking it for an hour or so. I've also considered going to Utah lake which is just down the street and getting a couple...
