hi again my fish are doing really well i have 2 babies survive, its been great but i am wondering what to do with a new filter sponge as it will have no bacteria on it someone told me to soak it in my fish tank water for 24 hrs before replaceing the old one is this true? if anyone could help...

so i went to my lfs and typical they tested my water with the test strips i couldnt believe it and they had no liquid test kits to sell so i had to order some wont be getting an accurate reading till sunday now :/

thats exactly how im feeling right now frustrated and thinking of giving up but i have put alot of money and hard work in to this and am determined to stick to it if it wernt for u lot i wud have no hope of succeeding im shocked that fish shops dont give better guidebce and advice on the best...

i cant stand that i guess the shop was all out of water test kits for ph and nitrate ect

sorry i have 0 nitrite and 40 nitrate ph 7 kh 40 gh 180 but once i have been to the fish shop to get my water tested properly i will let u no the rest what a mess!!! :sad:

ok i shall get those liquid water tests instead then. i was only pointed to one test kit and that was the strips :sad: so will have to wait till tomorrow now im really anoid y sell something that isnt accurate!!!!!!

ok i have a liquid ammonia test kit and then for the nitrate nitrite kh gh and ph i have the strips if u are adviseing water kits for these instead then i shall purchase some tomorrow i am getting my water tested tomorrow at an lfs store aswell i have taken peoples advice when i went to...

p.s i will also add some shells

thanks crazy airborn thats very kind of u i will let u know if i need a sponge but at the moment i have a ppm of 0 so i think that that meens my filter is establised? and thanks kitty kat i shall add some reef bones to my tank. but apart from that do u think my specs are up to scratch? :) hayz...

p.s never mind done some more research but i definately need to lower my gh and higher my kh will be now using dionized water and getting a water softner pillow im really doing well thanks i now have a well looked after tank

hi again i went and got an ammonia kit and also api 5 in one kit my gh is 180 kh 40 ph 7 nitrite 0ppm nitrate 40 i know my gh is way to high and my kh a bit low but in the booklets ive been reading it mentions dh (degrees hardness) i have no idea how to measure this??? can someone help thanks :)

my friend has a well established tank shall i get some of her water and wash my filter sponge with it or even soak it in the water?

uh oh i have found out my plec will eventually grow to 13.8" so will need a bigger tank for def asap!!!! :)

this is gonna sound stupid but pm? lol i was told my plec will grom to 12cm at the most so will be getting a bigger tank asap. (grow)

when i make up the new water do i use my kettle water to warm the water up as my boiler is old?

i understand what you are saying i shall not rehome him he is a baby atm 2months old i shall be getting a 4-5 foot tank after christmas or if i need it before so be it lol i love him too much and will upgrade as soon as i have cycled my tank properly if needed thanks :)

i was told that my plec will only grow to its environment size and i do plan to upgrade after christmas :nod: when im making up the new water am i to use kettle water or tap? because i have an old boiler unsure wether that effects the water?

uh oh me too p.s do i have to use the same brand dechlorinator every time? if so this isnt a problem and is stress coat one of the good brands?

yes u are correct although i have used chemical aswell the stess coat stuff when doing the water chages shall i carry on using the chemicals?

i added stress coat solution biological filteration booster and tap water conditioner. whats a qualifying week? it says on instructions for the filteration booster to add 10ml per 10 gallons on the 1st 7th and 14th day and then 5ml per 10 gallons weekly the other only add when doing water...

i have a 60l tank i tested my water before i put my fish in and havent done one since i need some testers i cycled the tank for 4 weeks before putting the fish in my filter is medium size i done a water change about a month ago.

hi i am a beginner to tropical fish i have had my mollies for 2 months and one of them has red marks on its lips and one side of the gill on her cheak for approx 2 weeks. there is no changes in behaviour she is eating well and is still very active should i be worried about these marks not sure...
