Mollie Fish

Sounds great! If you're doing water changes every day and get some media from CrazyAirborne, you should have no worries.

In answer to this

but i think u are worrying too much about my fish i have had them for 3 months now and they are all active, feeding, no discolouring and none of them have died, one molly does have red marks but they seem to be fadeing

may I refer you back to this post earlier in the thread

ok and also its only effected one fish?

Only visibly.

The analogy I often use is to compare it with humans smoking. It might make your fingernails go yellow, but outwardly, you look perfectly normal. Then one day, the nasty hacking cough starts.

Same with fish, ammonia and nitrite cause internal damage that might not show itself for some time. In your instance, one fish shows burn marks, but the main damage is internal.

:good:

and thanks kitty kat i shall add some reef bones to my tank. but apart from that do u think my specs are up to scratch?
They're fine enough :) don't overdo it on the buffering, you're aiming at 4-6 degrees or so ;)

hayz h i did buy the water strips and they seem to be fine y?
They're very inaccurate compared to test kits. For example, I have had strips give me a KH reading of 1-2 degrees while a liquid kit gave me a 6 degree reading. Strips gave me 7.0 reading for pH, while a liquid kit gave me 8.2. Etc, etc. Basically, you want to avoid them if possible as they're not accurate.

Edit: Hayz beat me too it, stupid train booking website >.<
ok i shall get those liquid water tests instead then. i was only pointed to one test kit and that was the strips  so will have to wait till tomorrow now im really anoid y sell something that isnt accurate!!!!!!

Profit. It's a great product for people who think that liquid kits are too expensive. Accuracy shmaccuracy.......

sorry i have 0 nitrite and 40 nitrate ph 7 kh 40 gh 180 but once i have been to the fish shop to get my water tested properly i will let u no the rest what a mess!!!

It's amazing what people will do to make a few bucks. I've said it before, but if these LFS owners would realize that if they would do it right they'd have lifelong customers instead of a few who come in and get the whole setup, only to have their fish die within a few weeks or months and give up the whole hobby out of frustration.

thats exactly how im feeling right now frustrated and thinking of giving up but i have put alot of money and hard work in to this and am determined to stick to it if it wernt for u lot i wud have no hope of succeeding im shocked that fish shops dont give better guidebce and advice on the best products to use

ignorance is bliss when you are trying to sell expensive equipment and stoopid inaccurate test strips..they know you will go back for the right ones then....they aint stoopid! :grr:
how many ppl must wander in and say..i want fish! what do i need ££££££££££££
Everytime i go in my LFS i see ppl having water tested to see if its ok for fish as they set up 5 days ago and let it "cycle" since then.....i even hung about outside last time to catch then as they exited...but i had to go in the end!
Its so frustrating..i wanna tell them they are wasting their money!!

so i went to my lfs and typical they tested my water with the test strips i couldnt believe it and they had no liquid test kits to sell so i had to order some wont be getting an accurate reading till sunday now :/
