    BACKGROUND

You can try using vaseline instead of tape. Apply vaseline to the entire back of the tank and use it to stick the background to the tank. Use a credit card to sqwegee out any bubbles. The background should be a lot more vibrant.

    Parrot fish

If YOU knew anything about parrot fish YOU"D know they are not all white. What you have there is a juvinile Blood Parrot Cichlid. As juviniles they are light gray to light brown. Often (unfortunately) the juviniles are dyed as is yours. As time passes, your "blue" parrot will lose it's dye...

    Dwarf Puffers

I did answer your original question. you asked if the puffers would be ok with your other fish. No. Why would I answer any other questions? You don't want honest answers, you just want to hear what you want to hear. I didn't have this wonderful forum to turn to when making the decision to...

    Dwarf Puffers

I tried them with 5" blood parrots a couple years ago. I thought that since the blood parrots were sooo big that they'd be ok. The next morning my blood parrots had no fins and the puffers went back tot eh store (of course the store wouldn't refund my money since it was my fault) I highly...

    ordered my first live plants!!

So I've been keeping fish for 10 years and never attempted live plants. I've been over run with algae in our new house because the tank has to be placed near a window. Someone suggested trying live plants which will hopefully cut down on algae growth. I'm starting out small and with ones...

    Airstone a Godsend

That's weird, I had always heard live plants would help oxyginate the tank...I mean, plants give off oxygen. Hmm...something to think about before I go to live plants! :)

    algae...sick of it

I used to leave the light off during the day, but my fish hate that. I have blood parrots and they would turn pale if the lights are off. Yes, the sunlight is a factor too. Oh well....guess I'll just have to clean clean clean.

    algae...sick of it

Hmm, I don't know what the nitrite or phospate levels are. I'll have to pick up a test kit. No plants and the lights are on about 8 hours.

    algae...sick of it

I have a well established 55 gallon that is always covered in algae. I clean it out and 2 days later algae covers the gravel, plants, rocks and a bit grows on the glass. I have a full 4" clown pleco and 3 otocinclus. No ammonia or nitrites. PH is about 7.2. What's going on and what can I...

    Free Fish Tank

My first 2 tanks were free :) In college I worked at a pet store (locally owned, not chain) and people would get fed up after killing their fish because they didn't listen to me about cycling before adding a full tank of fish and they'd offer their tank! My first was a 29 gallon with all the...

I got my first cory cats last week, 3 julii's. Sp far 2 are inseperable and the other is always by itself. :( I feel bad for the loner....should I try and add another? I had thought they did best in odd numbers.

A Bad Day in an LFS

I totally agree becca. If the store will have to actually pay to replace the tank, then pay what they will be charged (NOT retail) What pisses me off about the situation is that they triedd to charge you retail in the first place and treated you like poo even though you were trying to do the...

A Bad Day in an LFS

A Bad Day in an LFS

Becca, please don't let them charge you retail. Call them tomorrow and ask to speak to the owner. They're lucky your a nice enought person to pay for the tank, for them to try and charge you retail is really a slap in the face. I worked in a little pet store through college and we would have...

    Weird question

My blood parrots hate daylight. During the day they turn pale, almost white. They've always done this. So I wonder if this window film stuff that is clear but blocks out UV would make them happy... also, would it keep algae from growing? Window Film Just a weird idea.....

    New here, howdy

Figured I'd better intro myself :) I've been keeping fish for about 10 years now. Currently I have a 55 "plus" gallon with 2 blood parrots, 3 julii cory cats, 2 angelfish, 1 clown pleco and 1 german ram. I'm thinking about getting a 20 hallong high to fit in our built in book shelves and get...

    Am I overstocked?

Yes, gallons :) Actually it's a 55 'plus', so it's a couple inches taller thsan a regular 55. I think I'll give it a shot. The Blood Parrots are suprisingly docile, I don't think they'd bother the otos. Thanks!

    Am I overstocked?

    Got my first cory cats!!

I can't believe I hadn't had Cory Cats before, I've been keeping fish for almost 10 years! I got 3 adorable julii cory's. Now, I know they scavange for leftovers and must be fed sinking pellets, but I am curious if they eat algae at all. I get algae on the gravel and rocks that my...
