I did it!! Got my cold cathodes yesterday and had moonlighting in about 10 minutes!! It was SOOOO easy. This coming from a woman that knows nothing about electronics. I wish I could get a good picture.....

You can try using vaseline instead of tape. Apply vaseline to the entire back of the tank and use it to stick the background to the tank. Use a credit card to sqwegee out any bubbles. The background should be a lot more vibrant.

If YOU knew anything about parrot fish YOU"D know they are not all white. What you have there is a juvinile Blood Parrot Cichlid. As juviniles they are light gray to light brown. Often (unfortunately) the juviniles are dyed as is yours. As time passes, your "blue" parrot will lose it's dye...

i had one a long time ago. i had soil in the tank and never saw that fron once. it always buried itself :) they are not to be handled and they do bite and bite hard.

So I've been keeping fish for 10 years and never attempted live plants. I've been over run with algae in our new house because the tank has to be placed near a window. Someone suggested trying live plants which will hopefully cut down on algae growth. I'm starting out small and with ones...

That's weird, I had always heard live plants would help oxyginate the tank...I mean, plants give off oxygen. Hmm...something to think about before I go to live plants! :)

I used to leave the light off during the day, but my fish hate that. I have blood parrots and they would turn pale if the lights are off. Yes, the sunlight is a factor too. Oh well....guess I'll just have to clean clean clean.

My blood parrots hate daylight. During the day they turn pale, almost white. They've always done this. So I wonder if this window film stuff that is clear but blocks out UV would make them happy... also, would it keep algae from growing? Window Film Just a weird idea.....

Yes, gallons :) Actually it's a 55 'plus', so it's a couple inches taller thsan a regular 55. I think I'll give it a shot. The Blood Parrots are suprisingly docile, I don't think they'd bother the otos. Thanks!
