Just wondering if anyone here has tried Low Voltage down lights instead of Florescent Tubes. I know the small Fluval Edge uses them, would they be any good for growing plants. Probably a stupid idea but always good to see if someone has done it.

Just use a hose and have it empty outside of the window or near by door instead of trailing through to the sink. Failing that buy a plastic container with wheels on, empty straight into that and tip it outside.

Take some water down to your LFS and ask them to do a test for you. That should rule out tap water or test kit.

I have six, they stay around the top of my tank together in the Anabus plant but they do come out a few times a day into the centre, even cought them playing in the stream of the Powerhead flow. I will get another six to make twelve BUT there so expensive, 3 for £10 down this way.

Along with moving the media you could move 50% of the water across and a few other things from the tank. Ive done this many times in the past and got a tank up and running in no time.
