Will my countertop support more weight

Well actually I thought it was some super glossy granite but apparently it is just a type of resin.. I've just asked a family member for the contact info of the contractors who installed it (recently) so I should be able to get back to you on the countertop's specific properties. Edit: from one...

Will my countertop support more weight

The following is a 2-dimensional cross section from within the drawers; the cabinet (to the left of the drawers) is more shallow with more empty space between the wall and the false back panel. (edit: disregard 'granite', its made of a resin) Below are some ideas I had for improving support...

Will my countertop support more weight

Thanks all for your replies. I had a go at dismantling the drawers and cabinets underneath the countertop. Those are definitely not what are supporting the weight on it, the countertop seems to be just fixed onto the wall behind and sticking out perpendicularly from it. The board inbetween the...

Will my countertop support more weight

Hello all, I've been running a 20 gallon / 75 liter tank on my kitchen countertop for several months now fine, but I wanted to upgrade to a larger 36 gallon /136 liter tank, since the space to accommodate it is available in that spot. I already acquired the 36 g tank, but haven't swapped them...

Petco Dollar Per Gallon is now live!

I passed by my local petco but they said the sale was not active at their location, said it happens once every two months according to guy I spoke to... and that it already happened at their location but was over. Just realized this thread was created in 2019 LOL. Anyways how does it usually...

    Above tank sump

AS for the above tank sump, I will still set it up, I will use the method indicated by itiwhetu for the return flow, and looks like I'll have to be buying one of the aqueon 5 gallon standard rectangular tanks and modifying it for my sump purposes. I've searched quite a bit around and there...

    Above tank sump

OK well I've been learning a lot since re-entering the hobby - its clear to me why I retreated to fake plants in my first large tank 10 years ago LOL - I was not prepared for the added level of complexity. For now, I'm going to continue with my approach of filtering over capacity as I set up the...

Cycle started off well, now.. not so well

I'm getting the sense that cycling a true planted tank is a completely different thing... well I guess from what I've gathered I don't want an 'aquarium garden' where the primary focus are plants and not fish so probably light planting with respect to that.

Cycle started off well, now.. not so well

haha not likely don't happen to have any friends with aquariums in the area. I'll ask next time I'm at a fish store but.. not counting on it

Cycle started off well, now.. not so well

Nitrate Seems to be around .50 ppm. Also the ph tested much higher than usual, my local tap water previously has tested for me for around 7.5 but this time it came to 8.2.

Capturing live wild exotic fish locally

Wow, thanks for the great input. You had to have this already typed out somewhere and just copy pasted, right? Honestly I'm shook how considerable your responses and contributions are on this forum. I remember when I had just joined 10 years ago you also replied to lots of my questions, that was...

Capturing live wild exotic fish locally

I'm fortunate to live in tropical south Florida and down here there are several native species that also are regularly found in the aquarium trade like sailfin mollies, flagfish, etc. Recently I've had my eye on getting some Sailfin mollies, called all my LFS and none of them have the sailfin...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

How do we search an entire thread (like this one) to find out if someone already posted the same opinion? Chain stores are not always inferior in quality, care and experience to LFS. This can vary from country to country of course. But certainly some LFS in my area in Miami, FL that I clearly...

    Above tank sump

Hmm well that does look like it could be very convenient for certain predicaments... In my situation, at least right now I don't think it will be significantly more convenient, not enough to invest in one of those when I already have a typical in tank heater and am trying to minimize spending in...

Safe / trustworthy stores in south Florida

Ic, sounds like solid advice. I will get to that eventually then. For anyone browsing the thread looking for the same answer, I've since visited some 6 LFS stores in addition to the chains closest to downtown, and for clear indication of the best stores in the Miami, FL area I'll rank them here...

    Above tank sump

Hmm I see, sounds like that is the way to go. Unrelated to the return flow, Do you know if the fluval 206 filter being positioned above the tank will be an issue with the outgoing, upward flowing flow rate or flow altogether? the pump is in the canister hood.

Cycle started off well, now.. not so well

Hi guys thanks for the input and sorry for not getting back sooner. I did take back the rosy reds that did not perish, luckily the store did take them back (petsmart) which was interesting to know considering I have since visited all the LFS stores and they all said they could not and would not...

    Above tank sump

Hi all I have been thinking about installing a sump in a cabinet above my 36 gal (136 liter) tank. The surface it rests upon makes it virtually impossible to install a sump below but above is not at all impossible albeit with some mods. The tank currently runs a fluval 206 canister filter...

Cycle started off well, now.. not so well

Hi all I started out my tank as a fishless cycle that clearly is the preferred option by the forum users as per the cycling guide post. Got ammonia hydroxide 10%, put a little in my tank. First mistake was not using the ammonia calculator, put a little too much so then had to do a bunch of...

Safe / trustworthy stores in south Florida

Just moved down to Soflo, and wanting to setup a nice tank. Before I put anything at all there, I am weary of any of the tanks at stores here - I had a chit chat w/ a store manager who was also the fish department expert and was cleaning the tanks when I was there, and he confessed that his...

stand to raise tank: possibly sump tank?

Soo making the pine stand is not something I'm against; but it would be something that would take a significant amount of time so it likely will delay the establishment of my tank for a while as I'm in the middle of my semester and am running around with tasks. I kind of wish I could just buy...

    Saltwater 1st time! - maybe I shoudn't..

Starting to have doubts about whether I should go through the trouble of establishing the saltwater tank. I know freshwater very well so maybe I should just stick with that, and later on down the hobby road when I have a bigger place with a bigger tank I'll do saltwater. My tank is only 38g...

stand to raise tank: possibly sump tank?

Ok. I do have a small jack russell terrier, he sometimes jumps around on the sofa but I doubt he would try to jump on the tank/stand. I'd be willing to take the risk. I'd probably go with the wooden stand & 6mm bolts. I've worked with wood before and its what I would be most comfortable with...

stand to raise tank: possibly sump tank?

Hey, Still in the process of preparing my 38 g tank for new inhabitants. I have it cycling on a low height coffee table sort furniture, but I'd like the tank to be a bit higher up because its not quite in ideal visual range for display. I figure I can put a sturdy block of anything that can...

Salt everywhere! need to cover tank

Alright. Problem has been solved. SaltNoob, Thanks for the input - I will keep an eye out for the aeriation of tank. I do think I will opt in for the convenience of covering the tank however, as this will be my first saltwater tank and I hope to optimize the ease of maintenance and procedure...

Salt everywhere! need to cover tank

Hey friends, So while in the process of cycling my tank - as I somewhat documented in a separate thread - I left my apt with the bare tank, only treated saltwater, & with heater, filter, & air pump running, for three weeks while I was out for holidays so the filter could cycle and the...

    Saltwater 1st time! - maybe I shoudn't..

OK - Although I'm out on vacation now my girlfriend has access to my apartment and she needs to get something of hers so I asked her kindly to take the prawn out and test the water. She's going to facetime me later today when she does. Damn, I wish I had not put that much prawn in, I don't...
