    Aquarium Salt

As of this morning there are no changes... the "fish-in" cycle guide states that once levels of ammonia and nitrite are at zero you can add a couple of fish, never to double the fish (in inches) that are already in... well, how long should the levels be at zero before adding additional stock?

    Cycling With Danios

I'm in the middle of a fish-in cycle. I started out with 3 barbs... heed the advice given and go fishless. I have been testing the water and doing water changes almost daily, sometimes multiple times a day during the first three weeks. It's been getting better this week and last but man, If...

    Aquarium Salt

after an hour and a half after a 40% water change the readings are ammonia - 0 ppm nitrate - 5 ppm (unchanged) nitrite very light blue - 0 ppm not sure if this is a good thing or not...

    Aquarium Salt

No question about it, I did a water and have been doing them regularly. I've managed the Nitrite with water changes, what hasn't increased thought is the nitrate. I keep expecting to see higher levels but it has been staying constant for about a week now. Normal?

    Aquarium Salt

I did another test today and found ammonia at 0 ppm, nitrate at 5.0 ppm and nitrite at 0.25 ppm, no change from 24 hours ago. Is a water change in order? It has now been 48 hours since my last water change...

How To Cycle A New Tank With Material From Existing Tank

don't mean to hi-jack this thread but.. if you wanted to add a new tank AND keep an existing tank going as well, what is the best way to cycle the new tank using media from the old, without having to recycle the old on as well?

    Aquarium Salt

I should change the title of this thread to "help - my first tank"... I won't be adding any new fish, when I do I will post here first so you guys can smack me if need be :) I changed the water 36 hours ago. I did a test today and found ammonia at 0 ppm, nitrate at 5.0 ppm and nitrite at...

    Aquarium Salt

Thanks Lisa. I'm glad I found this place, lots of good knowledge. Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and doing water changes as needed. I bought this 40 gallon tank used to get my feet wet, if you will. I Plan on "upgrading" to a 150 gallon tank and I'm building...

    Aquarium Salt

40 Gallons is what I have today, I have three barbs in there now and its about 4 weeks into the cycle. Ammonia is at 0 ppm, Nitrite is still relatively high at .5 ppm. I manage that by limiting feeding to once every other day and doing a 40-50% water change every other day as well. Nitrate...

    Aquarium Salt

Thanks for hte FAQ link :) I was looking to add a Bala shark once my tank is fully cycled. This is the fish I was told "required" salt, but that all species benefit from it. From the recent readings I've been doing it looks like I can stop using salts and the fish will do fine with the API...

    Aquarium Salt

When should aquarium salt be added to a freshwater tank? I know these are harmful to scaleless but I won't be adding these to my tank. Some fish require aquarium salt, or so I was told at the local fish store... so what is the general concensus here? to add or not to add?

    Marina Aqua-vac Water Changer

Hi, new here. I'm in the process of cycling my tank, unfortunately I started before finding this place and already have a couple of "hardy" fish in the tank. The process is well under way, about 4 weeks now. Ammonia is down to 0, Nitrite is at 0.25-0.5 ppm, I'm doing water changes every...
