We recently added a couple of live plants to our tank, and after a few days i noticed something stuck to the glass and it looks like a baby snail we didnt worry to much cos we though hey its a free snail :) but now we have noticed 3 others and we dont want our tank to be over run with them, so...

Just an update on this our tank is now perfect and finally cycled a few month ago since then we havent added any new fish (none have died) but today we bought some real plants to go in it and a few more fish (4 lampeyes and another female molly)

Ah rite, I see. This is all new to us so we don't really know. Its roughly about 12hrs, maybe a little bit more. So you think its normal that the filter is not yet dealing with the ammonia? We just thought it was strange. Do you think Ammonia Remover would help? We've seen that in our LFS.

Well we have the Interpet PF2 filter, most of the filter is full due to the carbon and bacteria sponges but Im sure we could make room somewhere. We have been doing about 3 50% water changes everyday but still, when we test the water again the following day, its just rising again to around 1.0...

We have tested the water again today and it seems to of went back up to around 0.50 so we are going to do a 100% change and see what the water is like after this. We will continue to do as many changes as it needs to get the reading around 0.25 or less :) On the subject of our friends tank...

Sorry i should have said the nitrate was fine aswell, i will check to see what is in the other tank, from what i remember seeing they is 3 zebra fish, about 6 tiger barbs, 1 female fighter, 2 neon tetras, and about 3 harlequins and 3 other tetra like fish :-)

FYI, we aren't too busy to keep fish, we were out for the day yesterday so couldnt do 3 50% water changes, we had been doing 25% water changes everyday like we had been advised from our LFS. We are doing the 3 big changes NOW !! Thanks.

Well I thought that adding fish would help, giving the filter something to fight? Urine is full of ammonia so shouldnt that of helped? Well we have doubts about the advice given off the LFS which is why we came on here :) WOW!! That is a lot. I may give that a go then. Thanks :)

We took a sample of our water to our LFS and they tested it, the results were all completely wrong. Ammonia was in the region between 6.0 - 8.0 and the Nitrate was high too so we came straight home and done a 50% water change, added Tap Safe to the water along with some Safe Water which removes...

Yeah that is right, it can harm your fish. Which is why you do it over 3-5 days, depending on how low the PH is, so your only rainsing the PH a little bit everyday. If you raise the PH too much the fish may die due to the shock of the sudden PH change, that itself is just as dangerous as them...

No nothing died at all, a couple of fish died beforehand but once we added the PH Up they were all fine and seem a lot more active since we sorted the water too :-) I think its just called PH Up, not entirely sure on the make but I can find out for you tomorrow when I get the box as I dont have...
