    Not just cloudy!

Just came back from a weekend away and went to see how its doing. Water was clear (not crystal clear) and he was doing a water change. I said you may want to rinse the filter as its done a lot of cleaning! opened it up (fluval underwater one) and it had loads of white gunk in it! so im...

    Not just cloudy!

Cheers for the info. We didnt wash the gravel though, but it took about 3 hours till it was in a tank with water in again, so i guess that woul have lost the bacteria. Are the level he has given above seem about right for a cycling tank?

    Not just cloudy!

no, before i used it, i washed it & washed it until i was sure it was proper clean.
  13. L

    Not just cloudy!

the white stuf is floating & on the heater! Ill ring him a get him to test the gh & kh. BTW, you only see the white bits in the water when you look close.
  16. L

    Not just cloudy!

Nah, the gravel was fine, washed, sived, washed, sived, stirred etc. I was worried by the powdery hard white stuff n the glass of the heater!

    Not just cloudy!

My uncle has recently (2 weeks ago) got a fish tank after my cousin fll in love with mine! I told him about the fishless cycling, but he got impatient and got 3 mickey mouse platies. I told him it was wrong, but i made that mistake and all was ok and they are still healthy! Anyway, he is...

    Tank Stock

Cheers for that, im kinda thinking 2 more loaches will be too much, but i read such conflicting reports on the net about it! Cant remember the name, think it had L51 at the end though, 5-6" Black one with white dots all over it.

    Tank Stock

Cheers for your reply. I wanna wait a few months before i get the plec as the local fish shop said they have known a few cases of them going into tanks newer than 4 months old, doing fine for a month or so then dieing (looking healthy still aswell) Im not too sure on that advise, but at least...

Vids of my new Clown Loaches

I think the flow seems more as it was meeting from both sides in the middle. ive since changed that so in the center the water is very nice for the angels to loiter in. Them clowns suddenly move as if they are in a current though! they have gone crazy at the moment after sleeping since the last...

    Clown Loaches

Im thinking of getting 3 clown loaches, before i get them, i wanna make sure i know what to keep an eye on. Ive looked round the net and know about the sleeping antics etc, but havnt found anywhere that says i may see very little of them when new into the tank. i think it would be likely if...

    Fry

Is it a done thing to let nature take its route and let the fry just stay in the main tank with the other fish? Just wanna know if thats classed as cruelty or not? As i think ive got a few pregnant platties!

    Nitrite out of control

Another thing i think i benifitted from was when adding new water, leave it in the bucket for 30 mins or so with the dechlorinator working its magic. I figured chlorine is used in swimming pools to kill bacteria so it probably does that in the tank to, so the bigger the water change with...

    Nitrite out of control

I had this aswell, since gone to a bigger tank & used a product called 'Nita-zorb' or something, its a pouch that absorbs the bad stuff and has worked a treat.

    Do fish really " PLAY " ????

My platies are wicked!! They do all sorts, newest thing seems to be to get as close as they can to the filter where its shoots the flow accross the tanks the get in the stream and race! Also, some of the little ones get up alongside the bigger ones (almost touching) and move everywhere with...
