Yeah I checked with Petsmart but the people at mine are very very stupid. The corner I'm looking at putting this in is a room dividing corner, which is one reason I'm leaning towards the 50 gallon. I think it would probably be safer.

My nitrates are 5 ppm and that comes from my tap. I have had several people tell me neons are suppose to be fairly hardy. Why are there such different views about these fish?

Yeah your water will evaporate, but a gallon per day is a bunch. I normally add one more gallon than I take out on my weekly water changes, so I am puzzled by the gallon per day. Maybe somebody else will come along and help.
