Will they bother the betta? Will the betta eat them? Will leaving them allow them to grow in numbers? This new found bug is interesting, while still a little worrisome. I've had tanks for long time and never had anything like it.

I would say that it is a film algae. How did the bugs get there? From the tank being dirty? I've only been using bottled water.

Did it ever stop or lay off? I fear the gourami will end up killing the tetra (whether it be stress or physical harm). I'm still stuck: Should I just ignore it? Or should I re-locate the tetra??

The only thing that makes me believe that it might not be dropsy is that the swelling area seems to be centralized and almost, like a hard lump. I am not completely positive, but it is just different than other times when it was more apparent that the fish had dropsy. Thanks for all the help...

The medication I used is an anti-fungus tablet that claims to cure many things as well as dropsy. I have used it in the past and it has helped. Any other suggestions? thanks, batman
