I believe my gourami is sick and it's too late to fix. =[ The gourami has swelling/bloating around the belly area. Round and abnormal, seems to be centralized. The gourami hasn't been eating the past couple days. It seems to be swimming to the top for 'gulps' of air, more than normal. I have already given 2 doses of medicine (thinking it was dropsy) and a few more water changes than normal to help, but it seems to be getting any better, if not worse. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Batman

Try some shelled peas on him, but that's hard if he's not eating, what do you feed your fish, can the fish maintain it's balance in the water, are scales prutruding outwards.

if its a female it could be laden with eggs, but if you havent seen any poo then it could be constipated, what do you feed it? try daphnia, it might be tempted by live foods.

I feed it flakes. The gourami is able to keep its balance, and only a few scales are prutuding outwards (why I thought it was dropsy) around the swellilng. I've had the gourami for about a year, and this has never happend so I'm not so sure about the eggs. Constipation could be a possiblilty. How do I fix it?

What medication did you try one the fish, sounds like dropsy if the scales are prutruding, to many dry foods in there diet can cause this.

The medication I used is an anti-fungus tablet that claims to cure many things as well as dropsy. I have used it in the past and it has helped. Any other suggestions?
thanks, batman

The fish sounds in a bad way if it's gulping for air, and it's stopped eating which is not a good sign, and once the pinecone effect shows there isn't anything left to do as that is the last stage of the desease, sorry, can you issolate the fish.

The only thing that makes me believe that it might not be dropsy is that the swelling area seems to be centralized and almost, like a hard lump. I am not completely positive, but it is just different than other times when it was more apparent that the fish had dropsy. Thanks for all the help!
