    Disappearing Male Guppies

hmm - you know I once saw one of the blind cave fish with a half eaten fish in its mouth - too big to swallow - yes, it was a Guppy ... But how can they even see to chase or harm a fish - they are blind? I would have never thought of them as the culprits - the Rainbow fish yes .....

    Disappearing Male Guppies

I don't think you are understanding - it is only male guppies that are disappearing .... out of all the births I've had no male has survived past about 6 months but the females survive and thrive. I get that the body is probably devoured by snails but do you think this is because another fish is...

    Disappearing Male Guppies

hmm... I'd say about 10cm long, 5cm wide - I've had them for over 3 years so I'd guess they'd be considered adult. they seem quite sedentary normally and don't seem to chase anything ...

    Disappearing Male Guppies

i'm having a problem keeping male guppies alive in my tropical tank. I've had several batches of fry birthed and the only ones who ever make it past about 8 months old are the females - now I'm down to an all female guppy population of very healthy large females but my last male disappeared a...

Guppy Is Red All Around His Eye! :|

If you put the fish in a glass of cold water which has just started to ice over then this will stun it - then quickly kill it with a brick. I think this is the most human way to deal with a dying fish. :good:

    Snail Nnfestation

Yep - just did a web search on that and it's them all right - seems they are good for the tank and only eat algae so I'll try to keep the numbers down rather than get rid of them all. Thanks for the info. :good:

    Snail Nnfestation

I was cleaning my freshwater aquarium gravel and have found loads of black conical shelled snails in the gravel ... I have 4 apple snails but these are nothing like them - the biggest one is about 1 cm long and the shell is a long thin cone very dark almost black - i've since noticed they hide...

Should I Put Him Out Of His Misery?

No i'm NOT joking - that's how I've done it for years .... instant death ..... and is it really any different to crushing it with a brick?? Oh and it was the prescribed "humane" method for killing fish in the first ever Aquarium guide I bought so I didn't just dream up the method.

    Multiple Fish Deaths

Same thing happened to me - seemly healthy fish I'd had for months would be dead within a day - no symptoms at all. I checked the water chemistry and it was perfect ..... water changes done regularly - I lost neons, guppies, mollys and catfish - the only species that seemed impervious to it were...

Hi, I've 4 blind cave fish in my community tank along with several livebearers - recently a heavily pregnant molly was seen hovering under the filter out of the way of the other fish - I assumed she was giving birth so turned the light out and left her in peace ..... my flatmate happened to look...

    Floating Salvinia Dying

    Floating Salvinia Dying

Hi, I bought 25 Salvinia Auriculata plants - whilst they've sprouted offshoots rapidly the big plants seem to be turning brown and dying - my 65 litre tank has the lights on for about 7 hours per day (tank has also been going for over 6 months and fish are now quite happy - no chemicals added...

    White Spot Medicine Killing Fish

a week ago I discovered one of my neons had white spot - I bought the medicine and dutifully put in 8ml on day 1,2 & 3 as prescribed - keeping the lights off (recommended by my shop owner) - on day 4 I find I've wiped out all my neons (8) and my harlequins (6) are emaciated and have ragged fins...
