If you put the fish in a glass of cold water which has just started to ice over then this will stun it - then quickly kill it with a brick. I think this is the most human way to deal with a dying fish. :good:

Yep - just did a web search on that and it's them all right - seems they are good for the tank and only eat algae so I'll try to keep the numbers down rather than get rid of them all. Thanks for the info. :good:

I was cleaning my freshwater aquarium gravel and have found loads of black conical shelled snails in the gravel ... I have 4 apple snails but these are nothing like them - the biggest one is about 1 cm long and the shell is a long thin cone very dark almost black - i've since noticed they hide...

No i'm NOT joking - that's how I've done it for years .... instant death ..... and is it really any different to crushing it with a brick?? Oh and it was the prescribed "humane" method for killing fish in the first ever Aquarium guide I bought so I didn't just dream up the method.
