    cats

I'd be more aggressive too if someone ripped out all of my nails. Can you imagine the pain!! If your cat's aggression (though it sounds more playful tbh) is becoming a real problem I'd advise trying Feliway and if that doesn't work seek the advise of a behaviourist.

    Help, dying fish!

It's actually the other pakistani loach. It looks like a bite and one of the lemon tetras has the same. The phantom's colour has come back now which is a relief. The tank's been running for a couple of months almost now. I clean the gravel weekly but I can't get to all of it because of objects...

    Help, dying fish!

Just found one of my Pakistani loaches dead on the bottom of the tank and being eaten by a glass shrimp. I saw it earlier this evening and it looked fine. I was away for yesterday and most of today but my girlfriend's been looking after them for me. She said that yesterday she thought it was...

    New fish compatability

Hi Joey, You should be fine to add those to your tank. Beware that the plecs can grow huge. There's lots of different varieties though some bigger than others. I've got 2 honey gouramies and they're fine. Real characters too. They get on fine with every other fish. Clown loaches should be...

This are pics of fish cruelty

The whole lot looks photoshopped to me to be honest. If it's genuine it's cruel but those pics don't look right.

What's going on with my Yo Yo loach

Well I tried to get her out of the tank but couldn't get her. However since then she's much better. She basically hid all day under some bog wood and really didn't want to leave her spot. Now she swimming around like a loon again and eating fine. Her belly is no longer swollen, so who knows. Oh...

What's going on with my Yo Yo loach

I don't know if it's a she either just thought I'd give it a gender. My parameters are ammonia & nitrite 0, nitrate 12.5, pH 7.2, gH 6-10. Haven't seen it eating today.

    Already want a new tank!

It is worth checking ebay for tanks, there's plenty about and I know of a few people who've had real bargains off there.

What's going on with my Yo Yo loach

They get flake, bloodworm (frozen) and some granular food. As far as I know all the poop is fine, haven't seen anything unusual.

    My first tropical tank

It's definately a 30g tank - 48x15x12. It does look a lot bigger than it is. Thanks for your comments. I spent a lot of time getting it this way so it's nice to be appreciated. I decided I wanted a planted tank, got lucky with the bogwood we found and haven't really had any disasters along the...

What's going on with my Yo Yo loach

Over the last few days one of my pakistani loaches has become very fat. I don't know if it's something to be concerned about or not because it's eating fine and swims round as fast as the other one. It's very active though a few minutes ago it was just sat at the bottom of the tank and didn't...

    My first tropical tank

Just thought I'd post some pics of my first tank. It's a 48x15x12 tank with 5 lemon tetras, 3 khuli loaches, 2 black phantom tetras, 2 pakistani loaches, 2 clown loaches, 2 honey gouramis and a bristlenose catfish.

Bristlenoses are cheap and easy too.

    Algae eater

Bristlenose catfish are great algae eaters but I don't know how they cope with the cold. Fine in tropical though.

    If fish have 20sec memory...

I'd love to know how they 'determined' fish had a 20sec memory. There's no realistic way to measure it IMO. I think they have a reasonably good memory and certainly feel pain. Until recently it was believed that even cats and dogs didn't feel pain! Some vets will still tell you they don't -...

    Broken bones

Actually cartilage doesn't heal all that well. Once it's lost it's hard to replace (certainly in a dog's joints anyway) and that's why we get arthritis.

    Clown Loaches

How can the internal organs continue to grow? Usually the external size of an animal is dictated by it's internal size. I can't see how this would make any sense as the pressure from internal organs would cause an expansion in the epidermis leading it to get bigger. It would be more logical to...

    Algae

I'm just setting up my tank and noticed this morning that the rock I have in the tank is turning green in sections. I presume this is the start of algal growth. I've keep the lighting to under 12hrs a day, have added some plant food! and am using ammonia for a fishless cycle. Am I ok to just...

To be honest it was a bit of an afterthought, I liked the idea of black gravel but I'd already put the rest in so I just put it on top, I do like it though. Cheers
