    Before & After

the bushy plant in the middle is indeed a cabomba, and my favourite too! but if you get it, just be aware of it dying if you cut it down as it causes havoc when it all falls apart! i agree, the first pic was ok, but i feel like i have completely transformed it now and am so happy with it...

Yes the impellor came out and slime got cleaned out. I just constantly see small bits floating around my tank-I think I'm going to have to get poly/carbon again and try that.

    New Filter

Thanks for coming back to me. I was worried that a U3 would be overkill on a 60 litre which is why i thought id ask first. My sponges get a squeezing every other week doing 1 side at a time. I dont use the black & white parts as when i use them i find the output drops too much. Im going to try...

    Wood

get a bucket out your garage, fill it up with red hot water, and put the wood in it, leave for a few hours and repeat. at first the water will probably be really brown, but after a few times doing this all the tannins should dissapear. note, i said use hot water as it'll penetrate the wood...

    New Tank Problems =(

Its all dependant on the size of the wood, type of wood etc, but if its in the water already, it should release the tannins pretty much straight away and will reduce over time with water changes... and yes the fish do like tannins :-)
  32. F

    New Tank Problems =(

just looks like dirt and possibly a load of tannins... tannins will not harm your fish at all, and it will slowly dissapear with water changes. the same happened in my tank, and after a week of a daily water change it was all gone :-) p.s don't use chemicals, do it the natural way :-)

    Fluval Edge

for algae, the tank comes with a mag float for glass cleaning.... now youve all put a downer on it, im re-considering :-(

    Keeping Sand Clean?

ive had sand twice now, and i had the same problem both times. all you can do is what people have suggested: either a vac pump which runs off an air pump which you just waft over the dirt and debris and it'll suck it up or gravel vac doing the same technique. ive moved back to gravel now...
