To Remove The Biowheel Or Keep That Is The Question?

I have always thought they were crap. Nothing like a good skimmer , live rock and a water change from time to time.

    Breeding Nemo!!!

Cool, but clowns are breed all over the place. My niegbor had them breed in a 15 gallon set up. Unfortunately he did not know how to care for the young and they passed away, but they do breed in captivity.

    Live Rock question

You can add a piece of rock here and there over time with out much problem. It is a good idea to get as much as you can with your first purchase, but if you cant get alot of it no worries. I hand slected most of my rock over time, if your going to do it this way the rest of the rock in your tank...

    marine shop laughed at me

Well, some people dont know crap. Who is laughing now? Better yet, who is losing the sales now? I have found that most LFS personel dont know much about marine tanks. They are all pushing what the sales reps have told them is best for equipement (All sales reps offer the best product in there...

Well, I like having an open top to keep the heat down. A small tank can heat up rather quickly durning the day so I decided that the egg crate was a better option than a glass top.

I got the macros at the LFS, it came on a small rock and has gone crazzy since then. I have a Jeweled blenny on order to keep it in check, my last one jumped ship on me two weeks ago. I am going to put egg crate on the top to keep it from happening again.

You wont need an air pump on a marine tank.

    Quartz halogen light and macroalgae

I think I might know the light your talking about, or at lest a simalar light. I used it on a 2.5 gallon nano I had. If it has any metals, it will rust quicker than you can say "sassafrassmelonjelly". (Just made that up myself ;) ) Might want to coat it with something to prevent this...

    Starting a SWA Difficult

Put it in, you want it to start acting like a filter. The bacteria will begin to grow on it and you will be on your way to having a marine tank.

    Starting a SWA Difficult

Dont fret too much, you seem to be on the right track. Most of us here started out the same way you have and are running well established tanks at this time. Tell you what, how about you start a SWA journal here and let us know what you plan on doing before you do it and we will help out with...

    Dead coral chunks...

It all came from the wild if you look far enough back. However, inorder to take something from the ocean you need to obtain a permit to do so or it is illegal. If you have crushed coral it will be fine, I perfer a 50/50 with live sand but have used both by them selves.

    spider lookin things

Sounds like young mysis shrimp or some kind of pod. I wouldnt worry too much about them. A Six Line would help keep them in check.

    Nano Community

At risk of sounding like a jerk, it frightens me anytime I hear someone talking about a ten gallon tank with the cast of nemo and the little mermaid crammed into it. Please do your reading and know what you are getting into, the tank you want to keep is an expert only tank.

    quarantine tank

You will want to raise the tank temp slowly after the fish is in the tank. What it does is induce fever like state. I have ran mine up to 82. This is not nessisary if you are treating for parisites, only virial or bacterial infections.

    Can't Decide

A star would be the best bet. However I would question keeping a toad fish in a five gallon. An urchin would be out of the question, they grow quite rapidly and be a hazard to the fish in such a small tank. Sponges are a nice addition to a reef tank if you have the right water flow and placement.

What happens to a hermit with no shell?

You will pull him in two before he lets go of the shell. Death is a sure out come.

    sticky webbing

You can remove it or it will eventually break down on its own.

    Cyclopeeze

I also use it, and believe frozen is the best way to go. I just free float it, but you can get a suringe at a drug store or use a small turkey baster to target feed corals.

    live rock

You will be able to get in a thrity gallon trash can. I would put a skimmer on it as navarre stated. I also like to have power compacts on when curing. The more current you have the better. I would also do large water changes once a week if not more for a month or so. It will be ok to use old...

    Anemones Placing Properly???

The only problem with doing this is that the anemone may not like the spot you choose for it, if its not getting the right amount of light, water flow, ect... it may not last long. Also, not having an bones it will more than likely go through the egg crate or reach through it anyway.

    thinkin of startin sw

Its not that difficult, but it does take money. You have a tank, but thats the small expence. What do you have for lights, filtration, dont forget your going to want live sand and live rock, plus the expence of salt and RO water. (Tap wont work) Lions will also eat a fair amount of food and put...

    powerheads

It will also depend on what you entend to keep in the tank. I dont think I have seen you mention what type of lighting you have, this will also be very important as far as what you put in the tank. What exactally are you planning on doing with this tank? If you are planning on keeping seahorses...

EMERGENCY WITH MY SALTWATERFISH PLZ HELP

Can you post photos of the clown? The shrimp may know that it is not doing well and be on the look out for a meal, but more than likely not the cause of the problem. Can you give a list of all that are in the tank? What type of clown is it?

    RO unit set up pics??

Oh, let me clear this up I get a 2 to 1 ratio with my booster and permeate pump. The waiste smells like rotten eggs, and I am pretty sure nothing could survive in it for any amount of time. You dont need to have a presure tank, but its nice in that you dont have to worry about leaving it...

Setting up new Marine tank..Need advise

Nope, not the same. Rock salt does not cantain the minerals and what not need to sustain a marine tank. Invertebrates dont produce much waiste at all so you can have as many as you want provided they have enough food to eat. Rule of thumb is 1 snail per gallon, I dont really care for hermits but...

    Cyano

Kill the lights, stop feeding, syphon and put power heads on the area. RO water change can help also. Usually you can beat it in three or four days. Skimmer is aways a good thing to have.

    lighting

Coralife make as nice power compact with built in fans and moon lighting. I think it runs around $300 or so. Your other option would be to go MH, but then your looking at $700 and up.

They dont just stop there, pepermint shrimp will also go after other small anemone you dont want them eating. Keep an eye on them.

    Propagation of hammerhead??

Hammer coral? Yes, get a good pair of sheers and cut them were they Y. Now if your taking about them reaching out too far with the tentacels and sweepers. Your out of luck. Cut them on the soft part and you kill them.

    Tank cycling

You can add something like boi spira to your tank to cycle it. No need to kill a damsel. But like I have said before, many times the damsel servives and now your really @$&* out of luck. Now what do you do with it, that is if you can catch the thing?

    snakelocks anemone is brackish?

Ah, what kind of lighting do you have first off. They need good lighting to do well. We dont recomend keeping them even in salt water. As cool as they are they dont do well in captivity. Read this artical then decide if you want one.
