I got a heater AND thermometer. It's on 78 degrees now. I shall show you what I got through EVERY time I try to get something for the betta fish: Me: "Okay, I'll get my wallet." Mom: "Why?" Me: "Oh, because I want to get a heater for the tank." Mom: "I told you, Emilee, they don't need that!"...

Do you have to have a filter to cycle a tank? I heard adding food to the water while cycling helps although I'm not sure. I know how to cycle a tank when you have a filter and testing supplies but without it's just hard.

Okay, I read that on average bettas live about 3-5 years. Good. The oldest betta fish I had made it to about one year old, so I can use that to my advantage. :shifty: Hehehe.

I WAS going to get a tank of fish until *poof* I got a ferret. Now, I've convinced my mother for a Betta fish! My problem is that she thinks they can actually live happily in a half gallon (US gallon) tank with no filter or heater. I was able to convince her to let me get a 1 gallon fish bowl...

I don't know what I want for fish! I know I definitely want guppies, but what size tank do I need? If I clean the tank weekly, do I need any Plecos or cories to keep it cleaner? The biggest I can go is a 20 gallon, what kind of fish could go in there? I would prefer at least 2 different species...
