Check the dorsal fin. If it is pointed, it will be male. If not, then it is, female. But judging from the coloration, I agree with the others that it looks like a female.

I agree, a giant Gourami and Pleco combo would be fantastic... Something like a Sailfin Gibbiceps Pleco would be great, or even the bit smaller Trinidad Plec. Some Kissing Gourami might be nice too...

I don't know much about Bettas, but do know about Wikipedia. Wouldn't neccessarily use it as the be-all and end-all of research - anyone can post anything up on that site! Basically, I could edit it to say Gourami's are members of the Camelid family... It would stay there until someone else...

Actually yeah... going by the 1 inch for every gallon of a tank ruling, 30L converts to about 6.6 gallons. Really, your tank is way too small for any ammount of Gourami. The Rainbow, Powder Blue, Red or Neon Blue Gourami's need at least a 15 gallon tank; and even the Honey Dwarf needs a minimum...

I agree with Dan. I have 2M's and they, mostly, get on fine - barring a couple of instances...

The male is generally quite considerably more colourful than the female. The female is usually a paler, less vibrant version of the male. The pointed dorsal fin is probably the safest way of sexing - it can be quite obvious. Good luck with your Gourami!

Ther is no reason why you shouldn't have Guppies or Mollies in the same community as Gourami's. Both are good community fish.
