ok so....if a fish , say in its natural habitat was swimming around in the nice warm water , say for the sake of my point , 26c , swimming round all day long, when the sun goes to sleep at night does the water temp not drop ?? im willing to take an uneducated guess and say of course it does...

im going to turn my heater off then if your tanks heating up that much, just to see...........

i think ill just add something pointless to add to my post count :unsure: so your telling us that sun is heating your tank up to 29 c ? where do you have it placed ? :blink:

or do what your supposed to and turn the heater down , you would need to remove a lot of water before you can add enough cold to notice a temp change........ :good: hth

its been a while now and my plants, the ones you see on this thread are doing very well, and one of them has got new leaves growing from the tips of the plant , with roots as well dropping into the water , why is this happening plz ? heres a piccy...

are you changing the gravel because you dont like the look of the one you have ? how long have you had the current gravel in the tank ? by the time you have some plants established you wont see more that 30 % of the gravel anyway ... i wouldnt bother myself unless it was benificial...

i have 2 t5 bulbs , both placed equidistant to the center of the top of the tank. can anyone that knows better suggest to me an ideal bulb placement , should i seperate them ? as they currently are places 5 inches apart im thinking maybe have them 12 inches or so apart ?

a few new plants have been put in now , the others were doing well, so i figured hey , buy some more.............. slow and gradual changes are the order of the day for me, i will be adding taller plants at some point and also changing the layout slightly over time to suit...

if i was you i would look into it some more , you may have heard what you wanted to hear . but i think theres a bit more to carbon in the filter than you realize.............. :drool:

well i have made some changes to my tank this week, ive removed all the pots stripped back the roots 1-2 cm , lets see how it all goes....2 plants are tied into pots for the sake of not having floaters, lol and im not using a co2 system so fingers crossed my lighting and...

ok so , ive been and got my self a few foreground plants , my question is , would it be wise to remove the pots they are currently in, seeing as the sponge is black with gunk and , i dare say some vital nutrients for the plant , seeing as they have all been growing a while and are...

the plan is to have a planted tank , im not a massive subscriber to java moss, even if it might be the flavor of the month on here.... mind you, a piece of wood could look nice with moss all over it we will see, in time ....

i thought id throw up some snaps of a new tank, so that over time as it matures there is a kind of record of its progress. been running 3 months now............. plants and wood/rock will come later, when i can be bothered hehe thoughts ? the 2nd & third pic is not...

also in my experience, i have in the past noticed that a fish may separate them selves from the rest of the group if it is ill, or about to die, but thats just one *possible* cause, and by no means definite :crazy: hth

to be perfectly honest a little brown in the water is no bad thing, in my opinion . as long as the water checks out good, and is clear , it doesent bother me too much at all.

im thinking of buying a small uv light sterilizer after several people i know telling me how cheap and effective they are ? so is there a best time to add one ? my tanks been running for a good 16 weeks now, all my fish are happy and ive lost none . advice please :good:

the 1st fish i put in my tank was TEN NEONS and that was after 5 weeks , they have all survived a further 4 weeks , neons will be fine as long as your water is mature and stable, even the fish shop that supplied my tank suggested neons as a starter fish, i dont think they do...

As i suspected, ill have to soak it for ever now, lol i may well just do that , but instead of forever, something like another 10 times , seeing as the water she used wasnt boiling, in fact just a bit more than warm.............

forget the lighting question, as i have just purchased 2 tubes @ 39 watts they are the t5 high output ones , superb lighting now :) as far as the co2 system goes, thats now on the back burner , till next month , ive already looked into the type id like, and it seems to be ideal...

in my tank right now i have 10 neons , seeing as its only been standing for 6 weeks , anything is an option right now, but , preferably would like a small selection of larger fish and NOT Cichlids , lol

i have a 50 gal tank on a wooden floor and have had even bigget than that in the past , BUT it sits on the main beam :good: so ive no reason to worry..........
