    Plants

Never seen that site before, not sure if I'd order anything from them, although I'm pretty sure everything would be OK. They certainly have a massive selection. :)

    Fighting Gouramis?

Hi It's unlikely that they will fight, but you are doing the right thing in buying them in two's. The only thing I would say is that Gourami's can get very territorial, so keep an eye on your current ones when adding the new Gourami. I have a gold Gourami and it hates anything that even looks...

    Mollies

Thats good to hear, I've got a load of guppy fry in my breeder tank at the moment, they can be great fun to watch and see them grow. :)

    15 Happy Guppys

Males will always get along fine with other males, regardless of colours. If there are females present, they may ( but not always ) chase each other occassionally, but this is rare and even when it does happen, it won't ever get too aggressive. B)

    Feeding vegetables

Too true, there must be about 10 - 15 snails within my tank and I don't think I've ever seen them out, not even once during the day. If you have any Loaches, especially the Clown's, they'll munch through them like butter. :)
  9. S

    dechlorinator

Don't worry too much. As long as you haven't drastically overloaded on it each time, your fish and water will be fine.

    Deadly Ich?

Hi, Thats a smart set-up you have there, quite similar to mine. Well, as you know, ClownLoaches are very prone to whitespot ( ich ) anyway. This was more than likely caused by the arrival of your new fish into the aquarium, but if not that, poor quality. ( Even the slightest hint of ' bad '...

    Book reveiw

Books and web information will always be the way the way forward in the fishkeeping hobby. You can never have too many books and the more you read & build up, the better fishkeeper you will become. I've got quite a few and the the best one I've ever come across on the basis of facts and all...

    Iridescent Shark

Well, it's a matter of opinion on that, but from everything I've read / heard / seen , a Red Tail Black Shark will always be territorial against it's own kind, hence they will thrive better on their own. The reason you will have had success with a shoal of 3 or 4 is because their is too many of...

    my pelcos weird

Yep, all perfectly normal. They will lounge about in the most unusual places - my Plecos favourite place is upside down on a piece of driftwood in my tank ! Hence his name : Michaelangelo ( after the kids TV character who always sat on the ceiling ) !!!!!
  16. S

    fry!

£70 , bloody hell !! I'm not sure if a Pleco would much your fry - it'd be about 50 / 50 IMHO, Pleco's tend to be the ' greener eater ' , but the fry may be too tempting for it.

    Guppy Trouble

Thanks for that, but I'm not sure it is, as it's only obtained it recently. Wonder if this is possible ...

    Iridescent Shark

Agreed, it's JetBlackness is really striking and makes it's red tail really gleam. A lot of people think it's actually related to the shark family, but it actually has nothing to do with a shark - except it looks like one with it's fins. B)

    Iridescent Shark

Yeah, it's a shame that. By the way, WetWetWet, your shark looks very big - how long have you had it ? Grant :hyper:
  21. S

    Iridescent Shark

They are territorial only with their own kind, they make great community fish - they leave others alone and others leave them alone, it's a brilliant ' natural understanding ' !! :)
  22. S

has anyone ever had this happen??

Sorry to hear about that, but keep your head up and see it as a beneficial mistake for the future. It's v. common, especially during water changes when the lid is off and the fish feel the current etc. How did it manage to escape ? Was your lid off at the time ?
  23. S

    Iridescent Shark

Yep, CichlidMaster is right unfortunately. The reason for the behaviour will more than likely be stress, but may I add a suggestion as a replacement ? Provided your tank is large enough, go for a Red Tail Black Shark. They make a great member and need to be kept alone as they are v. territorial...

    Cloudy Water

That may be, but sometimes that just makes things even worse. I'm guessing a water change of about 40% as it's only a small tank and less lighting. Thats the trouble with coldwater, they can be v. messy .
  26. S

    fry!

What an appropriate avatar, KittyUK !! ;)
  27. S

    Would this work?

I can't see too much of a problem with it personally, as you'll have all the beneficial bacteria, the only thing will be you won't have a filter in the ten gallon with its beneficial bacteria, will you ? You'll also need to re-fill your main tank obviously, but that will be fine, just make sure...
  28. S

    Cloudy Water

Firsty, have you done a water change recently ? Secondly, How many hours per day is you're light on for ? Thirdly, are you growing real plants, or just artificial ? Let us know mate, as these are probably your main causes !! :)

    Guppy Trouble

Hi all, I'm noticing something really unusual - one of my guppies has gained a black head, basically from the top of its head and then it's running down about 3 / 4 down its small body. I've no idea what this is. Scale loss perhaps ? Please throw your suggestions my way ! Cheers in advance...

    PH READING

Thats a v. important point from William, as there is a good chance that the Neons haven't been kept in the preferred pH level at the LFS. Then again, they could have been, depending on how professional your LFS is.

    Need advice treating ick

Oh right, I was unaware the problem was actually sorted, so yeah, once it is sorted it's fine to bring the temp. back down to what it normally is. This still should be down slowly ( a degree a day or something ) , as drastic drops / raises in temprature can affect our wet friends !! :)

    clown loaches

They may not eat straight away. Don't forget that Clowns are generally nocturnal, so will do most of their munching in darkness ( usually anything they can find in the gravel ) . ClownLoaches will also eat some snails which will usually fill them up for a while, hence another reason why they may...

    fry!

A breeder / quarantine tank would be ideal. Preferably 5 1/2 gallon or 10 gallon for guppies. As well as the crushed flake food and liquifeed, remember to provide plenty of plant hideaway spaces and hiding spaces in general for the new fry, as the mother may decide to eat them all in the first...

    Sexing Fish

Some fish are much easier to decipher than others. Others can sometimes never be identified, as there is no discovered way of telling the sex. Guppies for example - the males are usually much more colourful and striking then the females, but even in that case, it's not always true. Check out ...

    hopefully good news...

I clean my filter media about each fourth time I do a water change ( once a month ) . I use the water from the tank to clean the filter media, so not to kill of the beneficial bacteria. Some people do this, others don't. The algae can be beneficial too, but if it starts going everywhere and out...
  36. S

    Need advice treating ick

You won't want to lower the temprature, as the lower it is, the better for the ich. You actually need to raise the temprature ( a bit at a time ) , as ich struggles in higher tempratures. I turned mine up so the overall temprature was about 4 degrees higherand it worked wonders along with the...

What are some other good cheap pets

Well, the simplest thing to keep are Stick Insects I suppose. Then of course you have snakes and lizards, but they require a fair amount of care. I presume you are talking about creatures kept within glass ?
  38. S

    clown loaches

I also lost one of my clown loaches at the time to whitespot, but it's best looked upon as a beneficial experience, rather than an error. WhiteSpot usually catches out the owner the first time it strikes.

    clown loaches

Yes, very true Crashed. The best way to restore back the orangeness and black in a ClownLoach is by water changes and simply allowing them to settle. Loaches as I've mentioned are very prone to whitespot, so good water quality with no ammonia / nitrite etc is important.
