Well, my mom just switches the light on manually, and when we're done watching, she just switches it off and it will light itself up. It is similar to the on and off cycle, so I don't know. A lot of people use the on/off lighting.

I'm sure it's ok to use, I've seen it in many aquariums, especially kribs. It wouldn't hurt to boil it though, to kill off any bacteria. I doubt they have tannins. :D

Ok. They definitely need more light, at least 2 wpg. Most likely they're trying to grow some of the high light plants. Then maybe they can put in co2. Also, once they get better lighting, they might consider adding iron and flourish. :)

Yeah, probably, since purigen is REALLY good at removing it...

I use this stuff, I get it from petsmart usually, or somewhere else if I can. anti-fungus It's a mix of Malachite green and arciflavine hydrochloride. (phew, whatever that is!) :P

Your hygro looks fine, the brownish tinge is a start torward pink! :)

could be fungus. Try adding some simple malachite green, it shouldn't hurt the fish at all, if you're really cautious, just add a half dose.

Yes, why do the bubbles stop and collect in a big bubble? I had this when I put in an extra ladder, but it never happened to the one that sat in the tank without use for a couple weeks. Is this the key?

yes, robbo, it's too low. That will give you 0.5 wpg, which won't grow much more than some java moss, java fern, anubias, and some algae. :)
