Hi there, I have a Fluval Tronic 9inch heater in my tank. I started cycling my tank 2 days ago. When I left home for work this morning the heat had reached 28 Degrees celcius. My heater is on full wack. Is this hot enough to promote bacteria growth for the cycling process? Thanks Lis x

I work in the medical industry so just assumed that it was a general rule that bacteria grow faster with heat. :)

but what ever happens I have to turn the heat up in the tank for it to work, right?

Yeh I see your point. The guy said "just a pinch"...but a pinch with my little fimgers or my other half's big fingers? And I guess different food might have different effects, etc

I just ruled out sand because although it looks nice and natural, something larger might 'trap the algea' a bit more. I assumed this woul dbe better for my algae lovers. What do you think? Lis x

Oh I see. That makes sence. I would assume that the fish food process takes longer too? Because it has to build up the ammonium as opposed to just adding the ammonium.

What do you all use as a substrate to line your tanks with? Ive seen gravel, stones or sand. I don't think I'll go for sand. But I can't decide between gravel or stones (pebbles) for my community tank. I heard that algae can grow my more easily between the stones and I will have a few algae...

Ah ok. That sounds ok then. The tanks they have there in that shop are imaculate and the fish ALL look really healthy so I felt like I could trust himbut just wanetd some feedback on here. Thanks Lis x

Hi there, yet another cycling question.... I read through the clycling thread and called my (new) LFS who came recomended and seem highly repretable to ask if they could provide me with all I need to cycle my tank. The reply was: You don't need much, just add a pinch of fish food to your water...

I thought the zebra ones looked quite good with the zig zaggy pattern :)

Ive seen soem really nice "tropical freshwater snails". Are there any nice, brightly coloured, interesting, nice shaped ones that could go in a community tank that I'm planning to set up? Thanks Lis x
