HI
I have a 350l marine tank with sump, its about 1 year old and have just tested it and found to have high Nitrate, the sump has a refuge compartment with some algae that i can't pronounce all i know it is the most common type.
Any ideas to lower please.

I have just required a multi meter so im got to test the out puts of the ballast unit to the bulb holders to see if there is voltage.
As for the power surge im not sure as it happen when i was away over the weekend. I havent noticed any blackness about.
Hi
Yes the hole thing is dead halide supply by 1 lead and plug and the 2x T5 supplied by one lead and plug. There is no switch on the unit for each bulb just a lead and plug.
Thanks DAN
Hi
Thanks for the help, the transformer is making a very quiet buzz not the normal humm. There are 2 cylinders at one end. I think one is a capcitor (spelt wrong) not sure what the other is, i would like to google it but i dont know what it is.
Cheers dan
Hi
I have a 250w halide unit which also has 2x 22" T5 bulbs. Today it stopped working. Not to hot on electrics, but i changed the bulbs and checked the fuses but it still does not work. The unit does not even humm when turned on so im thinking it might be the transformer or the ballast unit...
Hi all
I recently changed my tank from external filteres to sump. . Change over went well, its been about 2 months now and in the last few weeks i have had a massive out brake off red blanket agea.
The tank is 350 l
The tank reads
1027
ph 7.9
new halide 250w
using rowa phos
nitrate remover...
My tank is 1m by 250mm by 300mm depth. I have a full stocked tank of live/soft coral and many types of fish. Just want to improve the lightening for the tank for less money.
Hi i have a liquid test kit 2 months old my ammonia is 0 nitrite is 0.5 nitrate is 50 ppm ssl is 1025 ph 9! if i use a buffer which should take it to 8.3 does this also lower it to this or not?
Hi i have tested my tank today and found out that the ph is high it is nearly 9 how do i lower this. Firt thing that springs to mind is water change
but will this not keep the ph the same as the salt has a buffer in.
thanks dan
