It could just be the blue lighting making the colors look better.

Would This Be A Good Krib Tank?

The stocking wont work well if either of the pairs have fry they will protect their area at all cost. So if one pair takes one side and the other pair the other side the fish in the middle have a very limited space they can safely occupy.

Stocking 55 Gallon African Cichlid Tank

It really depends on what you want. More readily available fish like yellow labs and rusty cichlid will be cheaper than more rare ones.

    Looking For Some Advice

I had a Mbuna 55 gallon setup for about 5 years and decided to get rid of it to build a reef tank... That tank lasted about 2 years before the cost and amount of time needed, and difficulty to move made it no longer an option. I really miss having my cichlids now. So I'm thinking of starting...

    Polyp Hitchikers And Other Thing

hopefully some one will chime in soon with the correct way I was told to inject them with vinegar. Yeah, dont do that. Also be aware that unlike coral if its not happy where its located it can move around. I dropped a shell on top of one and it moved out from under the shell and hopped on top.

Try to touch it with something, if it can retreat into the rock its definitely something you should get rid of.

    Polyp Hitchikers And Other Thing

Controlling its growth is very easy. Remove the portion of rock the nem is on and move it to another small system, feed it regularly. In 6 months or so you will have about 100 of them. You will then promptly wish you didn't :) Bristle are fine as they don't harm corals. I don't care for them...

Adding Coral And Some Random Questions

Don't you need to add more than one to get them to eat the aiptasia. I have 3 and none of them touch it.

    Peppermint Shrimp And Companions

Back when I had a cichlid tank I got some power compact lights that also had actentics. My water turned green. I upped my filter from a 55 gallon handling unit to a 100 gallon unit and the water was crystal clear the entire time I had that setup.

When I got the rock I have now it was in a 30 gallon with less flow than needed inhabited by a black clown, a coral beauty, a Tahitian butterfly and a 6in engineer goby. So I've had algae from day one. Hopefully adding ro and upping the flow will help immensely.

Adding Coral And Some Random Questions

I can help a little. SPS= small polyped stony coral like some you have there need high lighting like metal halide, super high quality water and a lot of flow. LPS= large polyp stony usually require a lot less water movement and less intense lighting you seem to have purchased both. Also you have...

    Polyp Hitchikers And Other Thing

the first couple look like closed up zoas. If you put a light on them even a flashlight they will open. The last looks like a pest anemone called aiptasia. You want it gone fast. Few things will kill it and it can overtake your tank and kill everything in it.

I need to up mine i have 5 turbos, 3 red claw hermits, 4_5 nerites, 3 peppermint shrimp and at least 5 nassurius. I found a site that offers custom reef cleaners packs based on your current stock and needs i wanted to check out. i want to avoid nudis, chitons and limpets as those seem to die...

Yikes I got moderated! I just found out today you can mod maxijet style powerheads for more flow. They are really moving the water around now. I really need to beef up my cleanup crew as well. The main reason I was using the hob was to get surface agitation before monday it was media free...

I'm not arguing. I was just letting you know running that filter happened long after the algae outbreak. I will have the new powerheads this weekend and the biowheel can be put back on the shelf. Oh, I didn't think you were arguing. :) I just think biowheels and canisters on marine tanks are...

Canister no I gave my canister to my cousin with a spare tank I had 3 months ago. I'm running a biowheel model with reef rubble, ceramic noodles and activated carbon. I also scaled back on feeding and am manually removing some of the hair algae. I tried that with the aiptasia and you look at one...

I can but im currently fighting a sever hair algae and aiptasia outbreak hopefully getting more powerful and more reliable powerheads and an ro unit this week. I also want a phosphate reactor and a skimmer. i would get a sump as well but i dont have the room. I actually move fairly frequently...

purple dottyback was my least favorite marine fish I've kept. Was pretty territorial, but the thing that did it in was I turned of the powerheads to feed and waited for about 10 minutes (so the hermits could get a shot because I had 10 at the time.) and I hear the power head sputter and out...

Perhaps its certain species as well. I added shrimp after the wrasse I have and no issues. I think I have nailed it down though. A yellow tail damsel(I think I read somewhere they host, midas blenny and an algae eating blenny most likely a lawnmower. I was going to opt for a bangai cardinal, but...

I don't plan on keeping any really small shrimp. I've had my current wrasse for about 10 months and he hasnt snapped at any shrimp but I have seen mysterys going for peppermint shrimp if you just drop them in the tank.

Ok I think I'm going to add a midas blenny he did well last time until the aiptasia, a yellowtail damsel(because clownfish don't come in blue),and either a basslet(everytime I add a gramma something bad happens) of some type or a flame angel. I know the flame angels are iffy in reef tanks but...

Number Of Fish For My 49 Tall Nano Reef

I would suggest a midas blenny. It's a very pleasant fish that will spend time swimming in the upper water column until it decides to rest on a perch. I don't know about all of the fish you were looking at but my gramma was a pod hunter. I would say a wrasse would be perfect as some of them move...

I've never had a fish in that family that wasn't a clown. Everyone calls them overly aggressive and not very attractive fish. Are they known to be biters as well?
  30. guidedbyechoes

    Peppermint Shrimp And Companions

Yeah I plan on having coral thats why it narrows it down so much. I plan on getting the blenny, and probably two other fish. I really want the angel, but those can go either way I also really like clown and cardinals but they are pretty stationary.

I am absolutely a wrasse man as far as having a reef tank goes. I like active colorful fish and these guys have both in spades. The only fish I have right now are him and a purple firefish. It only occupies about 6 inches of the tank. So its not the greatest, but its striking and kind of odd...

    I Have Old Tank Syndrome

I think I have diagnosed my issue. I think I have water circulation issues causing the tank not to be filtered correctly. I'm afraid I havent made an entry in my journal since october of last year. It was at its peak at febuary of this year. Then one of my power heads started really acting up.
