    Have You Overlooked These Fish?

Triggers: Have a niger in a reef tank - no issues whatsoever, and a picasso in a FOWLR, again no issues. "pedro" the picasso is now hand-tame, and "george" the niger has bitten the missus (Flagfin) only the once...he's a slow learner !! Wrasses: Have a pair of bird-nosed in a FOWLR. Boisterous...

    Starfish

sand sifter will eat debris under the sand, doesn't need feeding. not sure what the other one is, but depends on what is going on in the tank

    Sg Values

we were always lead to believe that a lower SG is far less stressful for tank inhabitants. 10 years ago, everyone said tanks had to be 1.025-1.026. Not so nowadays. We keep all our Marine tanks except the FOWLR at 1.022-1.023. Soft corals love it. I am not saying that this is your answer, but it...

Who Has The Most Stupid Fish ?

Well, things seem a little slow tonight, so I thought I'd start a new thread. Roger (bless his little cottons) STILL hasn't learn where the water ends and the glass starts (have had him 18 months) He also hasn't realised that sand can scratch, or that he cannot fit through a hole in the rock...

    Id Please Pest Or Not?

That's a crynoid, right ? A lot of controversey about keeping them. Me and Flagfin had one for a while, looked great, then deteriorated...just started falling to bits. How long have you had yours, and what is it eating ? Cool pic, anyway !

    59 Gallon Tank !need Help!

Always regarded Chromis as the marine version of neon tetras, but we ended up with two of them and they do grow on you. Damsels ? Yuk ! They have a major inferiority complete an d are tooo nasty for little fish ! The other guys are right, too aggressive, and will limit what you can get in the...

    Should We, Shouldn't We?

We have found it so much more satisfying to set our marine tanks up ourselves. It is cheaper, it forces you to research a lot more. Yes, it is a slower process, but more rewarding. What will happen after this guy stops maintenance after the first month? will you know what to do ??? We have a...

    Plecs Eating...

try cucumber or potato that is weighted down. I have never bothered, Sebastian is 4 years old and over a foot long. He's never touched a flake or wafer in his life. He will sometimes pick up leftover Tetra Prima from the gravel. Not feeding him wafers etc means that he keeps the glass spotless...

    Would Cichlids Work For Me?

I had a community tank jewel 260 while i was in kent, and in it were a pair of yellow cichlids (something like labidochromis caerulus...look it up !) Within a few weeks they were excavating the gravel under the bogwood to use as a spawning site. A few weeks after that.......babies !!! I guess...

    Taking Fish Back....

Don't feel awkward, if the fish are fighting, then you are doing it for the welfare of the fish, which is the right reason. Any self respecting LFS would offer to exchange the fish for others (provided you got them there, and they are still healthy) Bucket, bag, ice cream tub, whatever ! But save...

    Couple Of Simple Questions

Cichlids (pronounced Sick Lids) Can be very aggressive and territorial. It all depends on which sort you have (or want to keep) We have had them in community tanks before, and they to pick on other Cichlids rather than anything else. (just ask you LFS before you buy) They SHOULD know better than...

    Adhesive Film Aquarium Backing.

Have heard of a vinyl backing that is applied with soapy water then the water is "squidged" out with a card or window cleaning thingy. If that is the stuff you are talking about, I can find out what it is called from one of our LFS's that has stocked it. If its a new tank without fish or water...

    Water Change

Have a jewel 260. ripped out the filter, don't think they do enough. If you have that stock, little and often should be ok, with a largish water change every 4-6 weeks. I dont use fertilizers or and treatments on the freshwater trops, so cannot advise. Hope that helps

    Ok No Laughing Pls

Be careful with your LFS, if its a big name chain, they aren't always the most knowledgeable. (especially if you visit on a saturday !!! - if you understand?) However, the majority of LFS's are fantastic with superb staff and a wealth of information to share (thought i should add that bit) Find...

    Quick Questions

Baensch, I agree. excellent books, for both trops and marine, but they aren't cheap. Depends what sort of info you need. Alot of what you read fish-wise is general opinion. We have one tank inparticular that goes against all the books advise, but everyone is happy (and the seahorses are breeding)

    Ok No Laughing Pls

Zoe, you can buy a culture of ammonia eating bacteria "bactinettes" or similar, that can be placed straight into a filter sponge and munch up all the ammonia straight away. Your LFS or the internet should be able to help. Its a bit of a short-cut, and not ideal, but its that or potential fish...

Me Again. How To Get Fish Poo Off Sand

Have you tried a gravel cleaner that is powered by an air pump that has a kind of little "sock" on the end of it ? We have found it great on the guppies and in the gourami fry tank. It just recycles the water and traps the poo as it goes. Wouldn't be without our "poo-sock" nowadays !!

    Fluval Vs Eheim

Fluval every time !!!!! we have 12 tanks, and have tried both fluval and eheim. Eheim has the name and reputation, but we find fluval better value for money and easier maintenance. Also better for parts. We have bought a 2223 (i think) only to replace it 2 weeks later with a fluval. Ultimately...

    Bumble Bee goby

lots of bad press re bumble bee gobies. Were they sold as freshwater or Brackish ? Apparently they are brackish fish which will not survive for long in a freshwater tank. Not stirring, just voicing what I have heard. If nothing, it will get a debate going !!!!! please respond Toby

    Black Ghost Knife. Need Advice

Zoe, we don't often see our BGK, and I don't really know why. Allegedly they are virtually blind and see with sonar, so day or night should make no difference. (it may be that as they are so shy they only come out at night when the other fish are less active) Some keepers use a clear plastic...
