Have a jewel 260. ripped out the filter, don't think they do enough. If you have that stock, little and often should be ok, with a largish water change every 4-6 weeks. I dont use fertilizers or and treatments on the freshwater trops, so cannot advise. Hope that helps

Baensch, I agree. excellent books, for both trops and marine, but they aren't cheap. Depends what sort of info you need. Alot of what you read fish-wise is general opinion. We have one tank inparticular that goes against all the books advise, but everyone is happy (and the seahorses are breeding)

Zoe, you can buy a culture of ammonia eating bacteria "bactinettes" or similar, that can be placed straight into a filter sponge and munch up all the ammonia straight away. Your LFS or the internet should be able to help. Its a bit of a short-cut, and not ideal, but its that or potential fish...

Have you tried a gravel cleaner that is powered by an air pump that has a kind of little "sock" on the end of it ? We have found it great on the guppies and in the gourami fry tank. It just recycles the water and traps the poo as it goes. Wouldn't be without our "poo-sock" nowadays !!

lots of bad press re bumble bee gobies. Were they sold as freshwater or Brackish ? Apparently they are brackish fish which will not survive for long in a freshwater tank. Not stirring, just voicing what I have heard. If nothing, it will get a debate going !!!!! please respond Toby
